Lead Fixed Equipment Inspector
Summary of Position
The Lead Fixed Equipment Inspector ensures the integrity and compliance of terminal equipment—including piping, vessels, tanks, and related components—through inspections using NDE techniques and adherence to industry codes such as ASME, NBIC, and API. This role involves approving materials, monitoring contract inspectors, assembling code packages, and supporting quality systems and continuous improvement efforts. Strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate findings effectively are essential in this role.
Qualifications
•High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
•Technical degree is preferred.
•NDE – Level II Certification is required.
•API 570/653 and/or NACE CIP certification is preferred.
•A minimum of five (5) years of equipment inspection experience in an oil and gas terminal or industrial facility.
•Knowledge of applicable codes and standards (e.g., ASME, NBIC, API) for equipment inspections, welding qualifications, and material approvals.
•Must be familiar with relevant NDE codes, standards, and best practices for performing inspections and testing, ensuring compliance with industry and regulatory requirements.
•Demonstrated ability to oversee and monitor the work of inspectors and technicians, ensuring compliance with quality standards, inspection protocols, safety standards, and maintaining quality assurance during their operations.
•Strong communication skills to report significant findings and decisions, ensuring that any critical issues are addressed prior to committing to actions that could impact safety or operations.
•Experience supporting the establishment of quality systems by helping define inspection and production process procedures. Actively supports continuous improvement efforts in plant operations and quality assurance.
•Capable of efficiently managing data, creating reports, and performing routine tasks in a computer-based environment.
•Strong knowledge of stationary equipment commonly used in oil and gas terminal operations, including their operation, maintenance, repair, and reliability improvement.
•Results driven with strong planning and organization skills.
•Demonstrated ability to work in inspection tracking systems and their administration.
•Familiarity with Engineering Standards and Inspection Procedures.
•Possesses general experience in working with computers, including proficiency in software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and other relevant programs.
•Strong problem-solving skills with a demonstrated ability to identify issues, analyze root causes, and implement corrective actions in a timely manner.
•The ability to work well with others in high stress situations.
•Consistently follows safety procedures, identifies potential hazards, and takes proactive measures to ensure a safe working environment for oneself and others.
•Ability and willingness to work extended hours and/or weekends, when required.
•Ability to obtain, or currently possess, a valid Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC).
Physical Requirements
•Work is generally in a field setting.
•Ability to occasionally lift or move up-to 50 pounds, perform physical activities such as climbing, bending, balancing, stooping, kneeling, squatting, crawling, reaching, crouching, push/pull objects, and wear necessary personal protective equipment.
•Ability to work outdoors in difficult conditions, including adverse weather conditions.
•Ability to enter confined spaces and work at elevated heights, following all safety protocol.
