About the role:

Reporting to the Senior Lead, Fish Habitat Offsetting, the Lead, Fish Habitat Offsetting supports with fish habitat offsetting, restoration and recovery planning and monitoring activities for EVR coal mining operations in the Elk Valley. Key responsibilities include fish habitat offsetting planning and design, execution of effectiveness monitoring and maintenance, and technical reporting to ensure regulatory compliance and project success.

This position requires someone with a passion for building relationships and fostering effective collaboration with Indigenous Nations, regulatory agencies, and local communities. In this role you will:

Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies
Develop and execute fish habitat offsetting planning and monitoring/maintenance activities, including conceptual offsetting design and effectiveness monitoring plans
Provide technical support in fish habitat offsetting design and monitoring to internal teams, including subject matter expert (SME) guidance, stakeholder engagement, and report development and review
Coordinate external contractors and consultants supporting technical and field-program deliverables, including onboarding, safe work plan development, site access, and field supervision to maintain mine site safety protocols and regulatory compliance
Support collaboration with Federal and Provincial regulators, Indigenous Nations and internal teams to advance fish habitat offsetting and monitoring/maintenance activities
Attend and participate in multi-stakeholder working groups, including the Elk Valley Fish and Fish Habitat Committee (EVFFHC), while supporting ongoing efforts to establish and maintain strong, trusted relationships with government agencies and local Indigenous Nations
Supervise junior team members, fostering collaboration, skills development, and efficient program execution
Assist in budgeting and financial planning for fish habitat offsetting planning and monitoring/maintenance programs, including detailed reporting on scope, schedule, and budget of fish habitat offsetting projects to support forecasting and cost management
Support meeting compliance with fish offsetting requirements and obligations, facilitating project handoff and transition between Projects and Site Operations as required


Requirements:

Degree or diploma in Science or Engineering in environmental-related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered
Minimum five years of experience in fisheries management, habitat science, or other related fields in the natural resource sector, preferably mining
Have or be eligible for a relevant professional designation
Knowledge of fish habitat offsetting, restoration and/or recovery planning and monitoring/maintenance
Valid Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent
Proficiency in project and data management, biological reporting, and GIS/web mapping technologies is an asset
Experience with provincial and federal regulatory approvals practices, legislation and regulations, especially within British Columbia. Experience preparing Fisheries Act applications is an asset

The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
