About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Lead Chemical Engineer to spearhead our nanomaterial synthesis scale-up operations, transitioning from 500L reactors to a 20,000L production facility. The ideal candidate will combine expertise in chemical engineering, nanomaterial synthesis, and process scale-up with strong leadership capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
•Lead the technical development and optimization of nanomaterial synthesis processes from lab/pilot scale to full commercial production
•Design, specify, and oversee the installation of process equipment for large-scale nanomaterial production
•Develop and implement process control strategies to ensure consistent product quality during scale-up
•Identify and mitigate scale-up challenges related to heat transfer, mass transfer, mixing, and reaction kinetics
•Create and maintain process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and other technical documentation
•Establish standard operating procedures (SOPs) for production processes
•Lead process hazard analyses and implement safety protocols for handling nanomaterials at scale
•Collaborate with cross-functional teams including R&D, manufacturing, quality control, and EHS
•Manage a team of process engineers and technicians
•Develop capital and operating cost estimates for scale-up projects
•Ensure regulatory compliance in nanomaterial manufacturing operations
•Troubleshoot process deviations and implement corrective actions
Qualifications
•PhD or MS in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field
•5+ years of experience in process development and scale-up, with at least 3 years focused on nanomaterial synthesis or similar complex chemical processes
•Demonstrated expertise in reactor design, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and separation processes
•Experience with process simulation software (Aspen Plus, COMSOL, etc.)
•Strong understanding of nanomaterial synthesis methods and characterization techniques
•Proven track record in managing scale-up projects from concept to commercial implementation
•Experience with cGMP manufacturing and regulatory requirements (FDA, EPA) preferred
•Strong leadership skills with experience managing technical teams
•Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail
•Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
