About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Lead Chemical Engineer to spearhead our nanomaterial synthesis scale-up operations, transitioning from 500L reactors to a 20,000L production facility. The ideal candidate will combine expertise in chemical engineering, nanomaterial synthesis, and process scale-up with strong leadership capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

•

Lead the technical development and optimization of nanomaterial synthesis processes from lab/pilot scale to full commercial production

•

Design, specify, and oversee the installation of process equipment for large-scale nanomaterial production

•

Develop and implement process control strategies to ensure consistent product quality during scale-up

•

Identify and mitigate scale-up challenges related to heat transfer, mass transfer, mixing, and reaction kinetics

•

Create and maintain process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and other technical documentation

•

Establish standard operating procedures (SOPs) for production processes

•

Lead process hazard analyses and implement safety protocols for handling nanomaterials at scale

•

Collaborate with cross-functional teams including R&D, manufacturing, quality control, and EHS

•

Manage a team of process engineers and technicians

•

Develop capital and operating cost estimates for scale-up projects

•

Ensure regulatory compliance in nanomaterial manufacturing operations

•

Troubleshoot process deviations and implement corrective actions

Qualifications

•

PhD or MS in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field

•

5+ years of experience in process development and scale-up, with at least 3 years focused on nanomaterial synthesis or similar complex chemical processes

•

Demonstrated expertise in reactor design, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and separation processes

•

Experience with process simulation software (Aspen Plus, COMSOL, etc.)

•

Strong understanding of nanomaterial synthesis methods and characterization techniques

•

Proven track record in managing scale-up projects from concept to commercial implementation

•

Experience with cGMP manufacturing and regulatory requirements (FDA, EPA) preferred

•

Strong leadership skills with experience managing technical teams

•

Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail

•

Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
