Job Purpose
The Lathe Machinist is responsible for setting up and operating CNC and manual lathe machines for processing tubular pipe, ensuring precision and quality throughout the manufacturing process. This role requires adherence to safety protocols and consistent production of high-quality components in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Work Environment:
This position operates within a standard manufacturing setting. Tasks involve handling materials up to 30 pounds and the use of required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, work boots, and hard hats.
Duties and Responsibilities
•Set up and operate lathe machines in accordance with production specifications.
•Perform routine preventative maintenance and document accordingly.
•Ensure proper setup of machine and pipe rack for each job.
•Verify availability and correctness of tooling and thread inserts before operation.
•Coordinate with laborers and inspectors to maintain production efficiency and quality standards.
•Notify the Facility Manager of any significant issues, including nonconformities or equipment crashes, that may impact operations.
•Accurately complete and submit production documentation at the end of each shift.
•Perform additional tasks or duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Required Skills
•Minimum of 2 years of experience operating CNC and/or manual lathes.
•Solid understanding of threading processes.
•Commitment to safe working practices.
•Strong team player with a positive, proactive attitude.
•Ability to work independently and reliably.
•Competence in basic math.
•Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, including threading specifications.
Education
•High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred.
