SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Laser Screed Operator is responsible for operating laser-guided screeding equipment to ensure precise, level, and high-quality concrete surfaces. This role is essential for large-scale concrete pours, especially in industrial and commercial projects requiring strict flatness and levelness tolerances.
TYPICAL RESPONSIBILITIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
•Operates laser screed machines (e.g., Somero) to strike off and level freshly poured concrete
•Sets up laser control systems and calibrates equipment for accurate elevation and slope
•Coordinates with concrete placement crew and finishers to ensure smooth workflow
•Performs pre- and post-operation checks and maintenance on the laser screed equipment
•Monitors screed performance and makes adjustments as needed for changing site conditions
•Maintains consistent communication with supervisors to meet production goals and specifications
•Troubleshoots minor equipment issues and reports major malfunctions
•Follows safety protocols and ensures a safe work environment at all times
REQUIREMENTS
•Must be at least 18 years of age
•Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation and punctuality
•1-2+ years of relevant operating experience; preferably with commercial laser screeds
•Familiarity with concrete mix properties, finishing techniques, and placement timing.
•Ability to read and interpret elevation plans and screeding specifications.
•Basic mechanical knowledge for equipment maintenance and adjustment.
•Strong spatial awareness, precision, and attention to detail.
•Experience and knowledge of concrete construction
•Experience with 3D and total station set up is preferred
•Must be able to work in outdoor environments, including prolonged walking or standing on various terrain in a wide range of weather conditions
•Must be self-motivated and able to work independently and meet necessary deadlines
WORK ENVIORMENT
•Outdoor job sites in various weather conditions
•May involve working around heavy equipment and loud noise
•Requires standing, kneeling, bending, and lifting heavy materials for extended periods
•May require overtime or weekend work depending on project deadline
•Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) required
