The Laser Operator is responsible for processing laser components from raw material to finished goods. Oversee the setup and operation of the laser cutting machine to optimize safety, quality, service and cost effectiveness. Ensure labor and inventory transaction reporting are done accurately and in a timely manner.
- Perform daily machine startup and shutdown procedures as prescribed in manual and training.
- Stage raw material for the day’s production.
- Assist in loading and unloading machine when required. Ensure all handling/lifting is done safely.
- Ensure production schedules follow through as allocated and facilitate work order paper flow in accordance with TS/ISO quality standards.
- Operates equipment/process effectively by insuring “beam time” is optimized.
- Perform maintenance and cleaning of the laser machine and work area in accordance with company standards and manufacturer’s machine recommendations. Perform machine alignment procedures and optic cleaning to optimize performance. Monitor gas levels and ensure supply is appropriate for planned production.
- Must be able to comprehend documentation requirements and perform simple to medium complex tasks related to the customer’s specific process requirements.
- Must be able to work flexible schedule to support business needs.
- Communicates conditions and concerns with supervisor throughout the shift.
- CNC certification and/or two-year machinist’s degree preferred.
4. Minimum Education & Work Experience Required:
- High school or GED diploma plus related two-year vocational degree.
- 2-3 years’ work experience in operating CO2 laser cutting equipment.
5. Necessary Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Understands decimal inch measurements and calculations and conversions.
- Able to work independently with minimum supervision.
- Capable of working on feet for the entire shift.
- Must be able to read CNC screens, drawings and determine aesthetic quality levels of raw materials and finished goods.
6. Supervisory Responsibility & Budget Accountability:
- Accountable for the quality of products and the safety and 5s of the work area.
- Little responsibility for the safety of others.
- The job is performed in a manufacturing facility where dust and noise are prevalent.
- Operates with measurement tools, CNC equipment, welding devices, saws, drills, grinders, overhead crane, and forklift.
- Raw materials and finished goods are heavy and cumbersome to handle. Proper lifting equipment and techniques must be used.
- Standard PPE must be used as applicable to the specific operations.
- Uses independent judgement and discretion based upon the employee’s experience in the position and knowledge of the products, equipment, and services.
- Moderate levels of stress may be experienced in the performance of the job.
- The job is performed in a manufacturing environment where the environment may contain heat, dust, noise, smells from laser operations and hazardous machining equipment.
