SUMMARY
This position performs routine monitoring and maintenance of landfill gas and leachate systems. Additionally, the technician will be required to diagnose and repair gas and leachate systems, coordinate air and water quality monitoring and testing protocols. The technician will be expected to operate, troubleshoot and assist with maintenance and repair of utility and enclosed flare operations, leachate volume tracking and related duties. The technician will also assist with daily landfill, compost and transfer station operations when it is deemed appropriate by solid waste management staff. This position reports to the Solid Waste Manager or designee. The work schedule is normally Monday through Friday day shift. This is a position that requires employee to work on a scheduled on-call basis.
RESPONSIBILITIES
? Implement necessary routine and non-routine repairs and maintenance required to keep system operating and in compliance with operating parameters, goals and permits.
? Perform field sampling and monitoring of various test locations including gas wells, headers, blowers, flares, pumps, etc.
? Based on data review and consultation with managers, adjust gas flow rates from wells, headers and blowers.
? Perform data monitoring, recording and analysis.
? Record and maintain daily field logs reporting data collected, field observations, actions taken and recommendations for actions to be taken.
? Operate, calibrate and maintain various analytical equipment.
? Perform and/or assist in required maintenance and repairs.
? Use tools, ladders, portable saws and generators to cut pipe to extend or repair gas well piping.
? Use extrusion welding equipment to repair and/or expand gas system piping.
? Operate excavator or small dozer to remove soil and lift piping for repair or expansion of gas piping system.
? Operate articulated dump truck and bulldozers assigned to landfill, transfer station and compost site operations.
? Complete site checklist and inform manager of any changes or concerns on a daily basis.
? Assist in developing, implementing and maintaining an on-going preventive maintenance program for the Authority’s landfill systems to ensure continuous operation of equipment/facilities.
? Adhere to applicable safety procedures and practices required in the various operations and enforce safety policies and procedures for those assigned to assist.
? Adhere to confined space entry and work procedures when servicing equipment in an area classified as “confined space”.
? Perform other duties as directed by supervisor.

? As needed and/or directed, assist the ACUA with its environmental mission and commitment to excellent customer service, to include but not limited to: serve in an advocacy role, help with site tours, and attend events and activities that the Authority participates in or sponsors.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
? HS diploma or GED
? Documented work experience operating solid waste industry heavy equipment.
? Must possess a current SWANA Certified Manager of Landfill Operations, Technical Associate or Inspector certification. Candidate not currently holding applicable certificate may be considered. However, the candidate must become certified in landfill operations by completing the SWANA course work and passing the exam within one (1) year of position appointment.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES
? Valid driver’s license in good standing
? Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL), Class B, with an airbrake endorsement.
? Must have experience and demonstrate a high degree of aptitude in mechanical work, analytical problem solving and data analysis.
? Must have knowledge, experience and the ability to use standard electrical and mechanical tools.
? Must have effective organizational, written and verbal communication skills to include but not limited to the knowledge and ability to organize assigned work, develop effective work methods, select proper tools, prepare lists of materials required and understand and comprehend parts and service manuals.
? Must be focused and attentive to all safety aspects of landfill systems.
? Must be able to travel for technical training.
? Must be able to work weekends and respond to emergency calls on weekends and nights.
? Must be able to work and report in all weather-related conditions and emergencies.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
? Proficient in computerized field equipment, Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, & Outlook), SharePoint, and other related applications is preferred.

Must be able to be exposed to or work under the following conditions: near moving parts and large machinery, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, work in areas with excessive vibration, load noises and risk of electrical shock. Must have close, distance, color, peripheral and depth vision. Constantly works safely at all times by observing all safety rules and regulations while utilizing all available safety equipment. Constantly works in all outdoor weather conditions.
