Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:
- Manage local labor relations and union negotiations.
- Develop and maintain local labor relations strategy in collaboration with business leadership team.
- Lead the development and execution of strategies and plans related to labor negotiations, including regular labor contract renewals.
- Establish and maintain effective labor/management relations and partnerships with business leaders and union leadership.
- Counsel management on labor contract interpretation and administration
- Prepare, present and work with internal and external experts (labor relations, legal counsel, etc.) regarding represented workforce investigations, arbitrations, National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) charges and other governmental agency proceedings related to labor relations.
- Assist the business in resolving grievances and other labor issues, including preparations for arbitrations.
- Manage labor / management relationships with line managers and employees to address and resolve varying issues, ensuring balance in representing all parties’ interests.
- Investigate employee complaints and claims related to the represented workforce; provide counsel to managers and supervisors.
- Proactively identify potential issues, risks/impacts of labor relations matters.
- Facilitate discussions between represented employees and/or supervisors on items of a more complex nature; handles cases using conflict resolution principles and tools.
- Provide counsel to supervisors on the performance management processes.
- Support management with hiring, transfers, and promotions.
- Oversee hourly personnel (operator and maintenance) promotions.
- Advise and assist supervisors and management in the interpretation and application of HR policies as they relate to labor relations.
- Minimum 10 years’ experience with Labor Relations required, including experience in a manufacturing environment (chemical or refinery experience preferred)
- Experience with NLRB charges, investigations in a union environment, compensation, employee development, staffing/retention efforts.
- Negotiating experience, preferably at a local leadership level or national bargaining event. Demonstrated ability to build relationships, based on trust and respect, at every level of the organization.
- Demonstrated experience in dealing with diverse work groups, resolution of difficult and sensitive issues or disputes, employee and supervisor counseling, project management experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in HR Management, Labor Relations, Industrial Relations or related field preferred.
