Job Summary
The Lab Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the quality and consistency of materials extracted from mining operations, analyze quality and composition of coal. The position also involves collecting, labeling, preparing, and delivering samples from various sites within the mining area to the laboratory for analysis. This role requires strict adherence to safety standards, protocols, and procedures to maintain the accuracy and reliability of testing results.
Collect samples from designated locations within the mining site.
Follow specific sampling procedures and guidelines to ensure accurate and uncontaminated samples.
Label and document samples accurately, maintaining detailed records of the sample's source and time of collection.
Transport samples to the laboratory while ensuring proper handling to avoid contamination or degradation.
Perform preliminary sample preparation, such as drying, crushing, or sieving, as required.
Record and report any observations or anomalies encountered during sample collection and report them immediately to the Lab Supervisor or Sales Team.
Maintain accurate logs of collected samples for traceability and quality assurance purposes.
Work collaboratively with other technicians, engineers, and production teams to ensure quality control in coal processing.
Obtain weighmaster certification and assist at the scale as needed.
Adhere strictly to all MSHA safety protocols and procedures while working on-site and handling hazardous materials.
Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required and ensure safe operation of sampling tools and equipment.
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow protocols.
Basic knowledge of mining materials and laboratory procedures.
Physical stamina and ability to work in challenging environments, including outdoor and remote locations.
Effective communication skills and the ability to work in a team.
Familiarity with sampling tools and equipment is a plus.
Proficiency with computers for logging and reporting data.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Additional coursework in geology, chemistry, or a related field is an advantage.
Experience: Previous experience in sample collection, mining operations, or laboratory work preferred but not mandatory; training will be provided.
Must have a clean driving record and valid driver’s license
