Job Description:
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Junior Metals Trader to join our trading team in New York. This role is ideal for candidates with a strong background in base metals, battery metals and/or raw materials. The successful candidate will support the head trader in executing physical and financial trades while having the support to grow their own trading book. The role is hands-on from day one and ideal for someone who would like to grow quickly in a competitive environment.
Key Responsibilities:
•
Assist in pricing, quoting, and executing trades in physical and derivative metals markets
•
Generate fresh trading ideas while establishing new relationships in order to grow the commodities books and trade flows
•
Monitor live positions, flag exposure/risk discrepancies and reconcile positions with back-office and clearing teams.
•
Support the development of trading strategies through quantitative and qualitative research.
•
Liaise with logistics, operations, and finance teams to ensure smooth trade execution and settlement.
•
Communicate with counterparties, brokers, and internal stakeholders to facilitate trading activity.
•
Stay current on macroeconomic trends, geopolitical events, and industry developments affecting metals markets.
•
Travel as needed to meet with suppliers, customers, and attend industry events — both domestically and internationally.
Qualifications:
•
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Engineering, or a related field.
•
2+ years of experience in commodities trading
•
Strong analytical and quantitative skills; proficiency in Excel, and/or trading platforms preferred.
•
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
•
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
Preferred Skills:
•
Existing knowledge and experience of physical trade flows and international logistics.
•
Familiarity with hedging on LME or CME markets
