We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Junior Estimator to join our growing water division. This role is essential for our bid-to-build process, responsible for gathering and organizing all the necessary data and background information for our underground water utility projects. The Junior Estimator will support the Finance and Operations Leadership team by performing takeoffs, collecting quotes, and inputting data, ensuring they have the information they need to create accurate and competitive bid estimates. - Estimate Preparation & Data Collection: Perform accurate takeoffs and material listings from project plans. Gather all necessary data points, including labor, materials, and equipment needed to complete targeted bids.
- Supplier & Subcontractor Engagement: Research and collect pricing and quotes from subcontractors and suppliers. This includes actively soliciting quotes, reviewing proposals, and negotiating pricing to ensure cost-effectiveness.
- Cost Analysis & Input: Input all gathered data into our estimating models and software. Assist with the preparation of the final bid proposal, ensuring all documentation is complete and accurate.
- Margin Analysis: Ensure all components of the completed bid estimate are accurately captured within our margin analysis model to project profitability and financial viability.
- Bid Value Benchmarking: Research and compile historical bid data for similar projects in the relevant region to inform current pricing strategies and ensure bids are competitive.
- Communication & Collaboration: Act as a key liaison, communicating with suppliers, subcontractors, and internal team members to clarify project details and resolve information gaps. Facilitate the seamless handoff of project information to the project management and operations teams once a bid is won.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Education: An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience: Previous experience in a construction-related role, with exposure to estimating or project coordination, is a plus. Experience with underground utility construction or water infrastructure projects is highly desirable.
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building relationships with suppliers and subcontractors.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel is a must) and familiar with estimating software.
