Position
Junior Civil Engineer/Technologist, Nunavut
Location and Reporting Structure
Reporting to the Senior Civil Engineer, this position will be a fly in- fly out 3x3 rotation based in Nunavut, Canada.
Responsibilities
•Design and draft Civil infrastructure including but not limited to roads, storage pads, site and building grading plans, culverts and drainage infrastructure under the guidance of the senior engineer;
•Coordinate crew and equipment schedules for multiple ongoing projects, working with site supervisors and following site-wide priorities, under the guidance of the senior engineer;
•Monitor construction progress coordinating required QA/QC requirements and construction progress reporting;
•Coordinate and analyze the results of required geotechnical and concrete testing labs, ensuring test procedures align with quality standards;
•Conduct inspections, monitor progress, and ensure work is done according to design specifications and safety guidelines;
•Support the preparation of technical drawings as per Internal produced civil infrastructure designs (3D models) and cost estimates to complete scope of work;
•Assist in contractor supervision and coordination on-site. Prepare daily and weekly reports on project progress and issues;
•Coordinate procurement requirements, stock inventory levels and project future requirements;
•Design and prepare sitewide traffic maps for both permanent site traffic and temporary alterations to traffic management to facilitate construction activities;
•Prepare, issue and analyze Requests for proposals and scope of works with external consultants and suppliers. Collectively reviewing and recommending a preferred option under the guidance of the Senior Engineer;
•Collect, organize and record accumulated project costs for budget reporting. Assist in identifying variances between projected and accrued project costs; and
•Monitor project deadlines, identify constraints and opportunities for optimization, and support risk mitigation by reporting issues to supervisors.
Desired Competencies and Requirements
•Three (3) years of civil engineering experience; work in mining with mine related civil infrastructure facilities and construction is considered an asset; experience working in Permafrost conditions is considered an asset;
•Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (B.Eng), Applied Science (BASc); or Advanced Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or equivalent;
•Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), Engineer-in-Training (EIT), Certified Engineering Technician Designation (C.E.T.) or ability to obtain same; and
•Familiarity with CAD software (Autocad Civil 3D), Bluebeam PDF and MS Excell and MS Project.
Compensation and Benefits
For informational purposes, the salary for the role is $129,000.00 Annually.
