Texas Meter & Device is ready to hire an experienced Journeyman Overhead Lineman in the Austin, TX, area for a full-time temporary position expected to last 6-8 months. Must reside in the Greater Austin area as there is no per diem nor relocation allowance associated with this position.
Under the general direction of the Project Manager, the individual hired will be installing new AMI Network Equipment (Gateways and Routers) on Austin Energy infrastructure.
- Locating selected infrastructure for placement of new AMI Network Infrastructure.
- Technical skills related to general overhead line work and network infrastructure with timely and accurate production to TMD standards.
- Unit assemblies will be preassembled for placement on the preidentified infrastructure.
- Ability to operate the provided work order management system for data collection
- Inspect and ensure proper installation of Routers and Gateways
- Direct a helper employee as required to perform the operation safely and efficiently.
- Troubleshoot connectivity or infrastructure issues as required on-site and thereafter as identified by exception reporting.
- Drive bucket truck to jobsite and maintain truck stock.
- Perform other duties as required and/or assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 3 years of lineman experience.
- Journeyman Lineman’s certification.
- OSHA 10 certification.
- Valid Class A CDL is required.
- 5 or more years of lineman experience.
- OSHA 20 Certification.
Performing General Physical Activities — Performing general physical activities includes doing activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as standing, climbing, lifting, balancing, twisting, pushing, pulling, walking, bending, kneeling, squatting, stooping, lifting in awkward positions and handling materials. Precise eye-hand coordination is essential.
This job operates in a field environment and work is performed in inclement weather conditions through extreme heat, extreme cold, rain, ice, snow and wind as required.
Near Vision at 20 inches or less and vision at 20 feet or more are necessary (with or without correction) with the ability to judge distance and spatial relationships along with the ability to identify and distinguish colors.
Operating Vehicles, Mechanized Devices, or Equipment — Running, maneuvering, navigating, or driving vehicles or mechanized equipment, such as, automotive vehicles and bucket lift.
Inspecting Equipment, Structures, or Materials — Inspecting equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.
Repairing and Maintaining Electric/Electronic/Mechanical Equipment — Servicing, repairing, calibrating, regulating, fine-tuning, or testing machines, devices, moving parts and equipment that operate primarily on the basis of electrical, electronic or mechanical principles.
Wear Common Protective or Safety Equipment such as Safety Shoes, Glasses, Gloves, Hearing Protection, Hard Hats or any Safety Equipment as required.

Compensation is negotiable depending on experience. Benefits available after appropriate waiting periods include: medical, dental, vision, and life insurance. Additional benefits may be available depending on the length of the project.
