Position will be required to meet all requirements of Journeyman in Training (Mechanic), and requirements to meet the Welder II/Stainless Steel welding requirements. Applicant must maintain qualifications as a Welder II.
A Mechanic/Welder II’s work responsibility is to perform any mechanical task assigned. This consists of pipefitting, repairing/reseating/repacking valves, overhauling pumps and compressors. Complete disassembly of pumps and compressors, installing new bearings, impellers using precision equipment. Overhauling gearboxes, repairing sootblowers, retracts and agitator gearboxes. They are also required to be able to perform coupling alignments and balance rotating elements such as fans and pumps. Also installation of bearings correctly using precision measuring tools such as inside-outside micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators as required. The mechanic needs to know the plant’s systems and functions to allow for troubleshooting equipment and systems. Other job functions include overhauling coal mills and being able to lift the heavy wrenches and equipment weighing up to 75 pounds. Must be able to read and use technical manuals and write equipment history. Scaffold Rebuild. They must have proficient welding skills, capable of welding structural steel and stainless steel in all positions, and pipe welding in all positions. Essential Job Functions
1. Have experience and knowledge to use many different kinds of tools.
2. Read and use technical manuals to troubleshoot and overhaul equipment.
3. Know and understand the system and equipment to be able to troubleshoot problems.
4. Read blueprints and drawings to fabricate or repair equipment. Use precision tools.
5. Operate equipment such as dump trucks, bobcat loaders, hoists and backhoe.
7. Preventative maintenance. Checking equip., adding/changing oil, greasing with lubricants.
8. Document completed work to maintain accurate equipment history.
9. Ability/proficiency to operate welding equipment and be proficient in welding structural steel and pipe/tube welding in all positions, including stainless steel welding, see below certification requirements. This position will be required to maintain the Welder II qualifications.
10. Complete all requirements of the JIT program as outlined by Technical Training and Maintenance.
11. Regular attendance and diligent work habits required
Basic Qualifications
1. High School Diploma/GED
2. Minimum 3 years power plant experience or equivalent heavy industrial mechanic experience, or;
3. Completion of a formal coal-fired power plant apprenticeship/training program with a minimum of 6000 hours of on the job training.
License or Certification Requirements:
1. Valid Drivers’ License
2. Passed or be able to pass the PPL Skilled Trades Testing/EEI MASS testing
3. Must be able to pass and periodically pass all required welding tests for plate, tube/pipe welding, and stainless steel welding, etc. The successful candidate would need to show qualifications and proficiency for structural and pipe welding of the following:
GTAW/SMAW, with an without backing material; Thickness GTAW 0.250"; Thickness SMAW - Unlimited; All positions; with and without backing gas, in accordance with ASME Section IX QW-461.9;
(2) 2" Sch 160 - Carbon to Stainless (.344" Butt Welds);
Pipe testing would qualify the welder for fillet, groove and pipe 1" & greater in diameter. This position would be qualified for SMAW and GTAW.
