TITLE: Journeyman Heavy Equipment Technician (U25-096)
DEPARTMENT: Operations

DESCRIPTION:
Under the general supervision of the Manager, Fleet Services, the Heavy Equipment Technician (HET) is responsible for performing major and minor repairs and preventative maintenance on various types of equipment. The HET is able to prioritize numerous competing requests while maintaining excellent relationships with both internal and external customers.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but not limited to):
•Work safely in accordance with safety practice regulations and procedures.
•Maintain a safe worksite; this includes completing injury prevention plans, correcting unsafe conditions, reporting incidents, and supporting incident investigations.
•Inspect, analyze, troubleshoot, diagnose, and perform complete repair and preventative maintenance of all heavy and light duty mobile or stationary equipment.
•Provide recommendations related to equipment repairs and design improvements.
•Test equipment for proper performance and to ensure adherence to maintenance and safety standards.
•Update maintenance records with accurate and timely information.
•Assist in the development and coordination of maintenance scheduling as required.
•Perform quality control audits to ensure that contracted work meets maintenance standards.
•Monitor and identify the effectiveness and reliability of maintenance work performed on mobile equipment.
•Provide on-call support with an understanding that this may require after-hours and weekend work.
•Special projects and other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
•An advanced knowledge of Alberta Transportation Motor Vehicle Legislation.
•Excellent working knowledge of hydraulic systems related to radial boom diggers and aerial devices.
•Proven ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with team members and customers (both internal and external); this includes excellent communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
•Excellent customer service skills and an ability to anticipate and meet the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers.
•Proven ability using MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and SAP.
•Demonstrated organizational skills to effectively manage numerous activities and competing demands within tight deadlines.
•Solid analytical skills to troubleshoot and diagnose equipment problems.
•Demonstrated ability to recognize opportunities for improvement, efficiency, and safety.
•Proven ability to work in a team environment or independently with minimal direction or supervision.
•Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and safe work practices.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
•Journeyman Heavy Equipment Technician certificate with a minimum of three (3) years of experience as a journeyman is required.
•Must be licensed to perform Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program (CVIP) inspections within 6 months of starting in this position.
•Valid Class 3 Driver’s License with air brake endorsement is required.
•Minimum of three (3) years’ experience diagnosing and repairing mechanical, structural, electrical, and hydraulic systems for automotive, heavy duty, and utility vehicles is required.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS:
•This has been identified as a safety-sensitive position. All successful candidates will be subject to a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
•Some overnight travel will be required.
•Physically capable of lifting heavy objects up to 35kg.
