Journey/Master Electrician (Streetlights)

Colorado Springs Utilities' Streetlight Maintenance team is hiring a Journey/Master Electrician to support installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining our electric distribution service lines. Our team is responsible for responding to service requests related to dropping overhead and underground secondary electrical systems so that work can be performed safely, and reestablishing power once work is complete.

The standard working schedule for this position is Monday- Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM with a rotating shift every four weeks of a 4/10 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM schedule.

Please note that you may be required, based on business needs, to report onsite in the event of severe weather (e.g., wind storm, snow storm) for a duration of 16 hours to assist with service restoration efforts.

The starting pay rate for this position is $51.89/hour, followed by an increase to $54.49/hour after successfully completing probation.

A day in the life of a Journey/Master Electrician may include:

Constructing, maintaining, and testing secondary electrical systems and related equipment
Repairing, maintaining, removing, and troubleshooting street light systems, poles, luminaries, and circuits
Working with various voltages up to 480v in the residential, commercial, arterial, and freeway street lighting systems
Switching or rerouting secondary electrical systems using proper sequencing and connections
Metering underground pedestal hook-ups, disconnecting, and reconnecting services in pad-mounted transformers and j-boxes
Removing and troubleshooting secondary electrical systems with testing equipment and aerial equipment
Operating line construction vehicles and equipment, including wire-pullers, bucket and boom trucks, and various hand tools
Laying pipe, pulling wire, and setting meters
Climbing poles and ladders and hooking up services and street light feeds


Who You Are

Completion of an Electrician Apprenticeship and experience as a journey-level/master electrician
Possession of a valid, unrestricted driver's license is required; possession of a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is preferred, or the ability to obtain and maintain within six (6) months of hire
Ability to climb poles and ladders to perform essential job functions
