Position Summary:
The IT Specialist is responsible for maintaining the technology infrastructure that supports MGED users, including servers, workstations, network devices, peripherals, and telecommunications. Working under the direction of the Business Manager, the IT Specialist collaborates with the IT Administrator and outside consultants to address the organization's technology needs. Additionally, the IT Specialist works closely with other departments and consultants on various projects.
IT Specialist Duties:
•Responds to daily helpdesk actives to support local and remote users
•Administers Windows-based network and Active Directory
•Maintain and reinforce security information and event monitoring systems.
•Work with internal and external experts to support MGED’s facility security, and facilitate employee access under security protocols
•Monitor, detect and diagnose security incidents, intrusions and vulnerability issues.
•Assign user rights to mapped network drives, shared files & folders
•Maintain complete hardware and software inventory
•Responsible for security of data, network access, backup systems and contingency plans
•Troubleshoot hardware and software problems; when applicable, serves as a contact person with external vendor to ensure the problem is fixed satisfactorily.
•Provide support for mobile phones and all other devices used for work purposes by MGED staff. May perform updates or facilitate repairs and testing of mobile equipment.
•Setup of new end-user hardware (computers, phones, laptops, etc.)
•Ensure solutions to issues are properly tracked and documented
•Coordinate records of tech and communications supplies and tracks inventory.
•Track telecommunications issues for all locations.
•Monitor incident trends and anticipate potential problems for proactive resolution
•Assist in the update and reboot of systems and serves as required
•Some traveling between offices as required
•Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
•Candidate must possess an associate's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field. Alternatively, applicants with five to ten years of relevant experience and related certifications will also be considered.
•Minimum 2 years’ System and Network troubleshooting experience
•Minimum 2 years’ experience working with Microsoft Windows Server
•Knowledge of iOS operating system
•Excellent analytical and communication skills
•Excellent work ethic and ability to work well with others
•Familiarity with server-based hardware, software, operating systems and peripheral equipment
•Proficient knowledge of cybersecurity principles and practices (preferred)
•Proficient knowledge of network/ storage hardware, technologies and configurations
•Strong documentation skills and attention to detail
•Adaptability to change priorities, as needed
•Knowledge of designing and deploying security focused products (preferred)
•A valid Massachusetts drivers’ license (required)
