IT Specialist II Asset Management

About This Job


Overview

Under general direction, support and maintain the District's information technology (IT) software and hardware assets.



Essential Functions:

Develop and maintain an inventory of all IT assets utilizing an asset management system to ensure that the information is accurate and auditable;
Track and maintain copies of software licenses, warranties, maintenance agreements, and vendor contracts;
Periodically review licenses, warranties, maintenance agreements, and vendor contracts against asset records to ensure District's legal compliance with agreements;
Utilize this information to plan for upkeep, upgrades, repair, and replacement of current assets;
Perform physical inventory of assets on a periodic basis and regularly monitor usage of IT assets;
Record findings and reconcile discrepancies;
Develop and implement efficient processes and procedures for procuring, tracking, and analyzing IT assets (software and hardware) from requisition through retirement;
Write technical specifications to support the purchase of District technology;
Procure IT assets on behalf of the District based on approved requisitions;
Identify, establish, and enforce vendor/supplier obligations and service level performance to the District;
Serve as liaison to vendors/suppliers for communications on a variety of topics (e.g. performance, dispute resolution, etc.);

Work with others in Department to develop strategies for addressing future hardware technology needs.

Additional Responsibilities:

Research industry best practices and compare against organization's practices in order to establish benchmarks for managing IT assets;
Develop strategies and external relationships to implement plans for recycling or selling obsolete assets;
Coordinate technical project assignments upon request;
Perform related duties as required or delegated by supervisor.

Qualifications


Training and Experience:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course in Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field.
Four years of progressive responsible experience in an IT Asset Management capacity.
Certified Software Asset Management (CSAM) Professional or Certified Hardware Asset Management Professional (CHAMP) preferred.


Desired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Must have strong technical competence with asset management software tools, such as Heat Asset Tracker, Heat Discovery Tool, and SCCM;
Keen attention to detail and ability to follow through on issues and action items;
Ability to communicate effectively with vendors as well as establish good working relationships with a variety of stakeholders;
Proficient at conducting research on IT products and services;
Able to quickly learn, understand, and apply new technologies to address business needs or problems.



SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:

Must possess a valid driver's license issued by the state in which the employee resides.


Pursuant to MSD's "Substance Abuse Policy and Procedures," this position has been designated as non-safety sensitive and candidate must pass a Non-D.O.T. Drug Test for this position. Employees occupying this position are not subject to Federal (D.O.T.) Drug and Alcohol Testing Regulations.
