Are you passionate about data and take pride in working with data to generate value? Are you ready to take your career to the next level? Canadian Natural is seeking a Data Engineering Student. As a Data Engineering Student, you will work with Data Analysts, Business Systems Analysts and industry experts to deliver fit-for-purpose data pipelines and data products for analytics and data science. You will develop modern data pipelines that extract data from multiple data sources, transform, combine, validate, and load it into a data lake, data warehouse, or application for further analysis and visualization.
- Job location: Calgary, AB – Head Office
- Shift schedule: 5 days on, 2 days off, 8 hours/day (Monday – Friday)
- Term length: 12 months
- Multiple term starts: January 2026 and May 2026
- Build and maintain robust ETL/ELT pipelines using Databricks (PySpark, SQL, Delta Lake) to support enterprise data needs
- Develop and manage data lakehouse solutions, ensuring efficient data storage, retrieval, and modeling to support analytics and reporting
- Fine-tune performance for queries and data pipelines, ensuring the rapid delivery of critical data
- Partner with data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver data solutions that meet business objectives
- Stay current with Databricks features and industry best practices
- Recommend and implement improvements to enhance data engineering workflows and capabilities
- Currently enrolled in your 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year of an Information Systems diploma/degree program
- Eagerness to learn and grow in cloud-based data technologies, with exposure or interest in tools such as Microsoft Azure, Databricks, Data Lakes, Azure Data Factory, and KNIME
- Basic experience or strong willingness to develop skills in Python, SQL, and PySpark, along with an understanding of MLOps, DevOps, and CI/CD pipelines as part of modern data engineering practices
- Strong communicator with the ability to clearly convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Team-oriented mindset, with a demonstrated willingness to collaborate, share knowledge, and contribute to collective success
