Job Summary

NiSource is currently seeking a NIPSCO IT Network Intern in Hammond, IN. Successful applicants will become integral members of the department while learning within a team environment, completing meaningful tasks and collaborating with team members and leaders on important projects. These positions will be a great opportunity for the candidate desiring to launch their career in the IT field. Successful applicants will build professional relationships with other interns and all levels of NiSource personnel while participating in rewarding professional development exercises and fun, team-building activities. Interns will obtain a broad overview of NiSource's operations and current events in the utilities industry.

This position follows a hybrid schedule, requiring on-site presence three days per week and remote work two days per week.

Essential Functions

- Operations Technology Infrastructure

Network Architecture & Design

o Design and maintain OT network topology (ex... segmentation, VLANs, firewalls)

o Ensure high availability and redundancy for critical network systems

o Integrate Industrial Control Systems (ICS), SCADA, Engineering Access, and Physical Security with the OT network

Monitoring and Operations

o Implement and maintain network monitoring tools (ex... SNMP)

o Configure, install, and support network infrastructure (switches, routers, firewalls)

Troubleshooting & Incident Response

o Assist with root cause analysis for network outages or anomalies

o Maintain escalation procedures and incident response (IR) playbooks

o Participate in IR tabletop exercises

Security & Compliance

o Learn and Adhere to NERC CIP (Critical Infrastructure Protection) standards

o Manage firewalls, SIEM, IDS/IPS, and endpoint protection for OT assets

o Maintain secure remote access (ex... VPN, jumphost)

o Schedule and implement firmware/software updates

o Assist with vulnerability assessments and provide and implement remediation recommendations

o Prepare, review, and update documentation for internal and external audits

Required Qualifications For Position

- o Acquiring a degree in data science, computer science, computer engineering, statistics, mathematics, computer information technology

o GPA of 3.0 or higher

o Have completed at least one year of undergraduate study

o Keen attention to detail and a quality focused mindset

o Strong oral and written communication skills

o Self-discipline for planning and organizing tasks

o Passionate about data

o History of being able to learn new technology quickly

o Solid skills in utilizing computers, operating systems, mobile devices and software (MS Office Suite, MS Project, and other IT applications)

o Excellent analytical abilities, including process analysis and development, problem-solving and root-cause analysis

o Ability to work 40 hours per week

o Authorized to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship

Salary Range*:

$19.80 - $33.00

- The salary offered to a candidate is based on several factors including but not limited to the candidate’s skills, job-related knowledge, and relevant experience, as well as internal pay equity.
