Position Summary

The CPS Energy Internship Program is designed to meet the industry’s rapidly changing workforce needs by providing local San Antonio college students with public utility career experience. Through the internship program students are paired with a mentor to acquire meaningful hands-on experience that expands their understanding of how the industry works and exposes them to essential skills they must acquire or develop to be successful. The internship is not only meant for the intern to learn how to do things, but to also understand the rationale behind the strategies that are being used.

The Financial Services Intern will perform account reconciliations and associated financial analysis, technical accounting research to determine proper implementation of accounting standards and prepares various analytical schedules and reports.

Tasks and Responsibilities

- Prepares accounting or financial transactions and/or journal entries and vouchers.

- Performs reconciliations of prepaid accounts.

- Sets up recurring entries to amortize prepaid transactions.

- Performs gas accounting and prepares gas schedules.

- Performs overhead rate analysis to evaluate adequacy of the existing overhead rates.

- Involved with storeroom inventory reporting and analysis" so not sure if you wanna keep the original or change it.

- Performs basic statistical/variance analysis on accounts/reports.

- Shadows analysts and managers by attending business meetings.

- Assists on special projects and teams as requested by management.

- Performs other accounting related duties and functions as assigned.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Package, including word processing, spreadsheets, and electronic mail.

If in possession of a valid Texas Driver’s License, must have favorable driving record.

Must be a college student; currently enrolled in a related discipline in Accounting, Finance

Required Certifications

Working Environment

Indoor work, operating computer, manual dexterity, talking, hearing, repetitive motion. Use of personal computing equipment, telephone, multi- functioning printer and calculator.

Physical Demands

Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.

Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
