We are seeking an Insulation Systems Test Engineer to join our Electrical Insulation and Lab Services Department. Under the
general direction of the High Voltage Laboratory Services Section Head, the Insulation Systems Test Engineer will develop and
implement high voltage tests to meet the requirements of internal and external customers, industry standards, and the laboratory's
Quality Management System; will issue engineering recommendations/reports to the equipment owners; and will provide innovative
solutions and ideas for continuous improvement of the laboratory test program.
Responsibilities:
•Define, develop, and lead high voltage tests within Manitoba Hydro's High Voltage Test Facility to meet the requirements of
internal and external customers, industry regulations, and the HVTF Quality Management System.
•Provide specialized technical expertise related to acceptance and diagnostic tests on a wide variety of apparatus including
instrument transformers, bushings, transmission line hardware, aerial devices, and large power transformers.
•Perform accelerated aging tests on stator bars/coils, and insulators.
•Perform material diagnostics and evaluation of electrical insulation systems from electrical, microscopic and chemical test
measurements.
•Analyze test results and issue engineering recommendations/reports to the equipment owners.
•Provide functional supervision and mentoring for the engineering technicians involved in the laboratory operations as
required.
•Support an ISO/IEC 17025 compliant quality management program through development and maintenance of technical work
instructions, standard operating procedures, and training documents.
•Develop and implement effective high voltage equipment and instrumentation maintenance and calibration programs.
•Liaise with other departments to improve the delivery of High Voltage laboratory services.
•Investigate new test methods and/or diagnostics and adopt these into the program of testing services.
•Produce written technical specifications for procurement of new test instrumentation.
•Contribute to the development of strategies and objectives to improve safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of the HVTF
operations and laboratory testing program.
Qualifications:
•Graduate in Electrical Engineering from a university of recognized standing with a minimum of six years related experience.
•Professional member in good standing with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (or willingness and ability to attain within a
specified amount of time).
•Must be familiar with safe working practices and promote an appropriate environment which supports Manitoba Hydro's
commitment to safety.
•Ability to organize complex high voltage tests safely and expeditiously.
•Must be enthusiastic and display initiative in resolving complex and adverse technical problems, while exercising good
engineering judgement.

•Ability to apply electrical/electronic instrumentation to specialized applications involving testing of insulation systems.
•Working knowledge in any of the following would be considered an asset: high voltage electrical insulation design, equipment
standards (CSA, ANSI, IEEE, IEC, NEMA), simulation in PSCAD, electrical and electronic circuit design, and laboratory
quality management.
•Ability to prepare clear and concise written and verbal reports.
•Ability to work effectively with Manitoba Hydro staff as well as external clients.
•Ability to provide technical guidance to technicians working on related projects.
•Possess and maintain valid Manitoba Driver's Licence.
Salary Range
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $47.32-$65.33 Hourly,
$90,677.86-$125,192.08 Annually.
