Position Summary
Under the direction of the Plant Maintenance Manager, the Instrument Technician is responsible for maintaining, calibrating, troubleshooting, and analyzing process control instrumentation. This role also involves providing consultation, conducting research, and contributing to the development and optimization of instrumentation systems used at ready mix facilities. The primary objective is to ensure maximum production efficiency and equipment reliability.
Essential Functions
•Perform routine and corrective maintenance on instrumentation and control systems.
•Belief and ability to understand and work according to our operating principles
•Installs, maintains and calibrates process control and instrumentation equipment including, but not limited to, Command Batch, PWS, COPA, and throughput.
•Calibrates and maintains all Command Batch in accordance with service manuals and operational standards
•Diagnose and resolve issues related to process control systems.
•Assist in the design, development, and implementation of new control solutions.
•Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve system performance and production efficiency.
•Troubleshoots and maintains process network (switches, routers, cabling etc.)
•Maintains instrument logbook on all maintenance activity
•Ensures process control data is being recorded, backed-up and archived
•Performs maintenance on both new and existing instrument equipment
•Provide leadership and assists in technical training
•Other duties as assigned
Minimum Education And Experience
•High School Diploma or equivalent
•Two years of relevant technical schooling or four years of field experience
Knowledge Skills And Abilities
•Good knowledge of industrial and electrical safety including lock-out procedure, arc flash protection etc.
•Must be knowledgeable in areas of electronics, computers, basic operating systems software (Microsoft Server, Windows XP & Windows 7, 10 and MS office), network tcp/ip, process analyzers, electrical controls, and process control
•Knowledge of batch plant and equipment layout, basic ready mix manufacture, ready mix process parameters, and electrical standards and codes
•Must be knowledgeable in areas of pneumatics, hydraulics, physics, and fluid dynamics
•Work requires the ability to read and understand operating manuals
•Ability to read and understand electrical schematics
•Ability to troubleshoot and maintain electrical systems
•Ability to troubleshoot circuits and electrical
•Ability to provide clear and precise feedback on work done including repairs, i.e. PM and inspections
Physical Requirements
•A high degree of manual dexterity and accuracy required
•Must be able to use hand tools and electronic test equipment such as multi-meters and probes
•Lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds from ground to waist as required
•Visual acuity, speech & hearing, hand & eye coordination
•Walking, standing, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, pushing, pulling, reaching, twisting, balancing, repetitive motion, driving, and squatting for extended periods of time (up to 12 hours)
•Must use proper Personal Protective Equipment as required
WORKING CONDITIONS
Works in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, ice, rain, and in high humidity, and is required to work in all plant environments. The incumbent will be exposed to vibrating equipment and mechanical and electrical hazards and heights. . May have exposure to dust, cement, clay, gypsum, sand, diesel exhaust, lubricants, solvents, various fuels, etc. (See MSDSs)
