Job Purpose
Federation Engineering is growing, and we’re seeking an experienced, driven leader to oversee and elevate our Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) team through strategic leadership and cross-disciplinary collaboration. In this key leadership role, you will mentor a high-performing team and oversee the execution and review of I&C deliverables to ensure successful project outcomes. You will also play a strategic role in shaping our direction by partnering with senior leadership, supporting business development, and helping expand our client base and project portfolio.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Team Leadership:
•Manage and lead the I&C team with integrity and humility
•Mentor team members, supporting their technical growth and career development
•Manage the team in alignment with company values and industry best practices
•Recruit and retain top talent to support project and staffing needs
•Foster a positive, engaged, and high-performing workplace culture
Design:
•Develop instrumentation & controls design for industrial and oil and gas facilities
•P&ID development and design
•Prepare, create, revise shutdown keys, control narratives / philosophies, alarm lists
•Create and review instrument indexes, instrument loop diagrams, instrument datasheet and sizing, and instrument UPS load requirements list
•Create and review I/O count and assignments, control system drawings, and control schematics
•Prepare RFQs and purchase orders as required for instrumentation and control systems
•Carry out technical evaluations and vendor documentation review
•Communicate with vendors and contractors as required
•Participate in HAZOPs and close out action items
•Write detailed engineering reports, studies, and briefs
•Coordinate with other disciplines to ensure a timely and accurate flow of design information, while ensuring departmental and client standards are maintained
•Develop and recommend improvements in design standards to lower costs, improve work quality and facilitate plant maintenance
•Serve as the primary client contact for projects focused solely on I&C, when required
•Provide input into estimates for prospective client projects
Build and Cultivate Client Relationships:
•Build and maintain strong relationships with current and prospective clients
•Identify opportunities to introduce clients to additional engineering and construction services
•Deliver reliable, responsive, and practical solutions to exceed client expectations
Qualifications
Skills and Experience:
•Bachelor’s degree in engineering is preferred
•Registered as a P.Eng, considered an asset
•Experience working on Management of Change (MOC) projects
•Experience in O&G/Chemical/Petrochemical industries, considered an asset
•DCS / PLC / Controls experience
•Working knowledge of SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI)
•Familiarity with CEC and international codes, standards, and approved codes of practice
•Proficiency in MS Office Suite programs used to create reports and documents
•Field or shop experience, considered an asset

Hybrid Work
Federation believes in providing flexible working arrangements for our office personnel and we offer a hybrid work schedule; 3 days in the office, 2 days at home or in the office (your choice), ½ day Fridays.
From time to time, travel to client sites or other Federation offices may be required (up to 10%).
