Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on all plant instrumentation, including troubleshooting, tuning, configuring, and performing repairs on instrumentation and control loops to support plant operations. Perform maintenance on both instruments and control loops for temperature, pressure, flow, level, and other analytic devices. Serve as lead Plant Technician as directed and assume responsibility for the management of assigned systems/programs to ensure effective performance and operations at the Generation site.
- Install, troubleshoot, repair, configure, and maintain all power plant equipment associated with multiple coal-fired power plants, including:
- Plant instrumentation
- Distributed Control Systems
- GE Mark V and GE Mark VIe turbine controls
- Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs)
- Peripheral communication devices
- Maintain environmental monitoring equipment in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and associated environmental permits.
- Assist with all phases of plant improvement projects. This includes:
- Research, create specifications, and install equipment as needed.
- Provide technical assistance to other Generation site groups on instrumentation needs.
- Provide training to others on instrument and control systems as needed.
- Represent the Utility with outside vendors, engineering firms and other organizations in support of plant maintenance projects.
- Revise plant instrumentation and control drawings.
- Develop and implement the Utility's instrumentation and preventive maintenance procedures.
- Prepare the Monthly Alarm Report for the DCS.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Associate's degree in electronics engineering or related field required or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Working knowledge of control practices needed for configuration and development of DCS and programmable logic controllers.
- Knowledge of electricity, electronics, and related components.
- Strong knowledge of hydraulics and thermodynamic principles as they relate to power generation required.
- Knowledge of coal-fired power plant operation, turbine and generator controls GE Mark V and Mark VIe, EX2000 and EX2100 controls preferred.
- Previous industrial, power generation, and/or I&C experience with the following:
- Electrical maintenance, ISA certification, or equivalent competency
- DCS Technician experience, Ovation DCS experience preferred
- Analyzing and troubleshooting instrument and instrument loop problems, configuring/tuning the DCS, calibrating switches, transmitters, indicators, and other related equipment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and listening skills, with ability to build productive professional relationships and promote a team atmosphere.
- Proficiency with use of Microsoft Office Word and Excel at an intermediate level. Proficiency with databases preferred.
- Good judgment and reasoning skills.

- Ability to drive results and ensure work is accomplished properly, safely, and in a timely manner.
- Able to use electronic, electrical, and pneumatic test and calibration equipment for testing and troubleshooting. Equipment includes multimeters, oscilloscopes, deadweight tester, special test equipment, etc.
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to develop, read, and interpret drawings, schematics, specifications, and technical manuals.
- Ability to distinguish colors.
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
- Must be able to attend work on a regular basis.
- Must be available to work overtime as needed.
- Must maintain a method of communication in order to be contacted by MP&W outside normal work hours.
- Must be able to comply with the Residency Policy.
- Must be able to comply with the Respiratory Protection Program.
- Work environment is primarily in an industrial coal-fired power plant or other outdoor job site. Part of each day is spent in an office environment.
- Must be able to climb stacks to perform work duties at great heights for extended periods under various types of weather/seasonal conditions.
- Must comply with all safety and site rules at all locations.
