Job Summary

Part of a larger team delivering high quality Computer, Network, Storage and End-User Infrastructure technology solutions, on-going support to the business. Independently completes infrastructure project assignments. Plan, research, evaluate, design, and engineer the enterprise's technology infrastructure. Provide technical support and troubleshooting, cost estimates, justifications, and recommendations. Produces technical documentation, support and configuration. Manage, plan, and maintain technical platforms including upgrading systems. Monitor system performance and installs and configures hardware. Responsible for collaborating with other Job Families such as Project Managers, Architects, Solution Engineers, Technicians, Business Analysts to deliver consistent, reliable technology solutions that leverage AEP's technology standards, architectures and best practices.


Job Description

We are considering candidates at two grades. Candidates will be evaluated and hired into the highest grade to which they qualify.


What you'll do:

Working independently, responsibilities include the following related to Computer, Network, Storage, Cloud and End-User infrastructure: Perform infrastructure project assignments. Plan, research, evaluate and design infrastructure solutions.
Provide a high level of technical support and analysis, operation, administration, and troubleshooting activities. Adhere to AEP’s approval processes as part of change management, incident management and trouble response scenarios.
Prepare cost estimates, justifications, application requirements, alternative solutions, and technical recommendations.
Prepare technical documentation including procedures, manuals, and reports.
Review and adhere to budgeting and approval processes while assisting with annual and project planning.
May provide training and mentoring, as well as work direction, to others on the team.


What we're looking for:


Grade 7:

Education: Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Telecommunications, or Networking, or equivalent experience.
Experience: Five years in direct support of Transport Operations in a large enterprise environment, preferably within the utility or energy sector.
ServiceNow or similar ITIL experience is a plus.
Experience with Transport networks including Fiber Optic (ADSS and OPGW) DWDM, Ciena, Nokia, Ribbon, ICON, Microwave (Aviat), and network monitoring and management including MCP & Provision.
Good communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and with little direct supervision.
License/Certifications: CCNA or equivalent from Transport Network vendor.


Grade 8:

Education: Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Telecommunications, or Networking, or equivalent experience.
Experience: Seven years in direct support of Transport Operations in a large enterprise environment, preferably within the utility or energy sector.
ServiceNow or similar ITIL experience is a plus.

Other Must Haves:

Adhere to policies, procedures, standards, codes and regulations relevant to assignments.
Demonstrate thorough knowledge of AEP infrastructure, environment, components, and facilities to enable more efficient and comprehensive responses to projects and problems.
Exhibit and apply proficiency in analysis, design, problem solving, troubleshooting, resolution, communication, and customer service skills.
