Industrial Sewing Technician – Niles, MI Full-Time | On-Site
A local client in Niles, MI is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Industrial Sewing Technician to join their team in producing high-quality canvas covers and related fabric products. This position is essential to creating custom, durable, and aesthetically pleasing fabric solutions—primarily for the medical industry.
Key Responsibilities
•
Operate industrial sewing machines to sew and assemble canvas covers and components
•
Cut, measure, and assemble fabric, foam, and other materials using templates or custom patterns
•
Perform binding, hemming, top-stitching, and seam reinforcement
•
Read and interpret design specifications, work orders, and patterns
•
Collaborate with the design and fabrication teams to ensure proper fit and finish
•
Inspect completed products for quality, consistency, and accuracy
•
Maintain a clean and safe sewing work area and equipment
•
Assist with material handling, inventory, and general shop duties
•
Use handheld crimping tools to install snaps on covers
Qualifications
•
Preferred: 1+ year of experience in industrial sewing, upholstery, or related field
•
Open to training candidates with strong home sewing experience (in-person skills test required)
•
Familiarity with heavy-duty fabrics and technical textiles
•
Ability to read tape measures, patterns, and fabrication specs with accuracy
•
Excellent manual dexterity and attention to detail
•
Ability to work independently and meet production deadlines
Preferred but Not Required
•
Experience with crimping tools
•
Pattern-making and material cutting experience
•
Previous work with marine-grade or heavy-duty fabrics
Job Types: Full-time, Temp-to-hire
Pay: $16.00 - $17.00 per hour
Schedule:

8 hour shift
•
Day shift
•
Monday to Friday
•
Morning shift
•
Weekends as needed
Experience:
•
Industrial sewing: 1 year (Preferred)
•
crimping tools: 1 year (Preferred)
•
heavy fabrics: 1 year (Preferred)
