POSITION SUMMARY
The Maintenance Apprentice is responsible for responding to and assessing equipment and machinery throughout all departments in the facility with journeyman level support.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following description of work to be performed by this individual is not intended to be all-inclusive. Rather, it focuses on the major tasks that must be accomplished.
•Respond safely and efficiently to maintenance and repair needs to equipment and machinery
•Ensure that safety is always the number one priority at Alexandria Industries; promote and support a safe work environment and safety-oriented culture by following all safety programs and guidelines
•Conduct all processes and procedures in accordance with department guidelines
•Provide support and training to less experienced team members when appropriate
•Follow all safety programs and policies
•Keep work area clean and orderly using 5S system (standardize, sustain, sort, set in order and shine)
•As a member of the maintenance team, you will support the journeyman techs in acting as “emergency coordinator” - respond immediately to any workplace accidents that arise to tend to the tools and equipment involved
OTHER JOB DUTIES (Not considered essential to the job)
•Adhere to plant safety rules at all times
REQUIRED GOALS
•Machine parts to rebuild/replace mechanical components and to construct new components
•Repair/replace belts, pulleys, bearings, gears, coupling, and shafts
•Troubleshoot and repair pneumatic and hydraulic systems and components
•Connect motors, start, push buttons, relays and timers in motor control circuits and troubleshoot the control circuits
•Troubleshoot electric power distribution – low voltage systems
•Rigging, crane/hoist operation and maintenance
•Welding technics and torch usage/safety
•Perform all other related assignments (including special projects) as required in a professional and cooperative manner.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
•High school diploma or equivalent degree
•Vocational classes at Ivy Tech required in the Industrial Mechanical, Certificate. Classes will start within the 1st year of employment
•General understanding of hand tools and mechanics.
Other required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
•Ability to safely operate industrial forklifts and scissor/boom lifts
•Strong computer skills (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
•Ability to recognize safety concerns
•Ability to utilize the proper inspection equipment
•Strong written and verbal communication skills
•Strong coordination and judgment skills
•Alertness and careful attention are required to avoid injury to self and others

•Measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, tape measure, )
