Generator Source, located in Brighton, CO., has been in the power generation industry for over 40 years. Our focus is on low-hour industrial diesel and natural gas generators ranging from 20 kW to 2000 kw. We service all brands of generators including Cummins, Caterpillar, Kohler, Generac, MTU, and more.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Perform comprehensive inspections and preventive maintenance on industrial diesel and natural gas generators to ensure reliable operation and compliance with manufacturer specifications.
•Diagnose and troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical, and fuel system issues, including voltage regulation, control panel faults, automatic transfer switches (ATS), and synchronization failures.
•Conduct engine performance tests, analyzing exhaust emissions, fuel injection patterns, and combustion efficiency to detect irregularities and optimize power output.
•Perform precision load bank testing to validate generator performance under operational loads, identifying potential weaknesses in power output, frequency regulation, and voltage stability.
•Diagnose and repair alternator and excitation systems, including AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulators), brushes, rotor/stator windings, and excitation capacitors.
•Service and test Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS) and switchgear, ensuring seamless transition between utility and generator power with proper phase synchronization.
•Evaluate and calibrate generator control systems, including Deep Sea Electronics (DSE), Woodward, Basler, ComAp, and other OEM-specific controllers.
•Inspect, clean, and maintain fuel systems, including tanks, lines, filters, pumps, and injectors, ensuring uninterrupted fuel delivery and optimal combustion.
•Test and maintain electrical distribution components, including power panels, relays, circuit breakers, transformers, and grounding systems.
•Analyze fault codes and system logs using OEM-specific diagnostic software such as Cummins InPower, CAT ET, Kohler SiteTech, and Generac GenLink to identify performance trends and predictive maintenance needs.
•Prepare generators for shipment, ensuring compliance with operational readiness checklists, proper fluid levels, and torque specifications for fasteners and connections.
•Collaborate with the Service Manager to provide accurate repair estimates, project updates, and customer recommendations.
•Maintain meticulous service records, documenting maintenance schedules, repair activities, and test results for future reference and compliance reporting.
•Follow all safety protocols and regulatory guidelines, ensuring safe handling of high-voltage systems, fuel management, and lifting operations.
•Other duties as assigned to support operations and field service requirements.
JOB REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS:
•Industrial diesel engine mechanic with at least 7+ years of experience.
•In-depth understanding of diesel engine technology is required.
•Experience working with large industrial diesel engines and related equipment is required.
•7+ years of experience working with numerous name brands and industrial engines like Caterpillar, Cummins, Detroit Diesel, etc.
•Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical issues on large commercial and industrial diesel engines.
•Proficient with estimating time required to complete tasks.
•Exceptional communication skills and team player mentality.
