Position Summary
The Hotel Chief Engineer is responsible for the maintenance of the hotel’s building and grounds and the operation of its equipment and mechanical/electrical systems. Additionally, the Hotel Chief Engineer is responsible for the overall safety and security of the hotel and its associates.
Hotel Chief Engineer Responsibilities
•Reviewing maintenance problems, complaints, and work orders to prioritize and schedule work assignments
•Monitoring and inspecting assigned work
•Troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing malfunctioning property systems and equipment, including electrical/mechanical
•Inspecting property to identify potential and current needs
•Planning and executing on-going appropriate maintenance programs
•Estimating maintenance department expenditures for budget purposes and assisting with capital budget process
•Soliciting bids from contractors, evaluating their proposals, and once contracted, ensuring work is completed to specifications
•Coordinating with local health, safety, fire, and building inspectors to ensure compliance with all applicable code and regulations
•Performing preventative maintenance assignments on a scheduled basis
•Servicing the hotel’s pool, including adjusting chemicals and cleaning filters
•Completing maintenance logs and updating all vendor/contractor files
•Maintaining the building exterior if not serviced by a contractor (e.g. snow removal, lawn care, painting, lights, etc.)
•Maintaining a passing score on the Quality Oil maintenance and security audit
•Maintaining Hampton service and product standards
•Maintaining and coordinating on-call schedule for maintenance department employees
•Maintaining and updating Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)
•Maintaining and monitoring overall hotel safety for its guests and associates
•Purchasing and controlling inventory for maintenance department within budget guidelines
•Completing work schedules for maintenance department employees in a timely and effective manner
•Recruiting, selecting, and training a skilled and motivated work force
•Listening and responding to guests’ requests and/or complaints
•Coordinating and maintaining effective relations with other departments in the hotel to promote guest service
•Is aware of all departments’ roles and responsibilities. Coordinating with other departments on joint tasks as they relate to maintenance, particularly housekeeping and the front office.
•Attending and participating in weekly staff meetings, ensuring all other departments are aware of hotel maintenance issues
•Installing, maintaining, and repairing lounge/bar and restaurant equipment where applicable
Hotel Chief Engineer Requirements
•Prior maintenance experience is required
•Prior maintenance experience in a hospitality setting is preferred
•Proven working experience and knowledge of proper maintenance processes, means, methods, and standards
•Knowledge of basic maintenance skills, including but not limited to: HVAC, water cutoffs, circuit breakers, hot water heaters, electronic door locks, mechanical, carpentry, landscaping, etc.
