As a member of the SHEQ department, the health safety officer is responsible for fostering a positive safety culture; ensuring the site is in compliance with occupational health and safety regulatory requirements; recommending accepted industry or best practices for health safety; and assisting with the implementation, maintenance and training of site safety programs and procedures.
You will support the company’s policies, procedures, goals, and objectives to promote a safe culture and productive workplace, which includes a comprehensive hazard identification program and processes. The health safety officer is responsible for increasing site health safety awareness through a variety of promotion activities and is actively involved in addressing and documenting safety suggestions and concerns. In addition, you will be responsible for industrial hygiene sampling and analysis; workplace inspections; health safety equipment inspections and purchase; participating in the site, divisional and corporate health safety committees; completing accident investigation; documenting and reporting statistics; performing the emergency response role of incident safety officer; and facilitating and gathering information for WSIB and ESDC reporting purposes.
