Capital Power is seeking a seasoned Trader to provide strategic leadership in the Eastern power markets (PJM, MISO, NYISO, ISO-NE) . This role is ideal for a forward-thinking professional with a strong track record in dynamic trading environments and a passion for optimizing natural gas power plant performance and enhancing trading strategies.
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and executing market strategies, managing risk exposure, and driving profitability across key markets.
You will contribute to our team by
- Designing and executing hedging strategies for Capital Power’s portfolio of gas generation and related assets in the PJM, MISO and IESO markets
- Creating speculative power and gas trading strategies for physical and financial markets
- Managing relationships with counterparties, customers and brokers, including the negotiation of master agreements, EMAs and AMAs where applicable
- Managing a trading team and create a high-performance culture
- Analyzing Eastern power and gas markets to identify trends, opportunities, and risks
- Applying risk management practices to mitigate losses and ensure compliance with policies and regulations
- Monitoring hedging and trading performance, and provide reports to management
- Collaborating with Operations, Risk Management, and Finance departments to support trading activities
- Staying updated on industry developments to improve strategies and processesWhat you will bring to the role
- Bachelor's degree in finance, engineering, mathematics, computer science, or related field with a solid academic record.
- 10+ years of experience in physical and financial power trading with strong knowledge of delta hedging strategies, Eastern Interconnect power and gas term markets and risk management.
- Experience trading heat rates, locational spreads, and time spreads.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for interpreting complex data and making decisions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective teamwork.
- Hybrid Office/Work from home position, with possible very minimal travel to meet business users at Capital Power facilities or other offices.
