The Head of Corporate Development contributes to the development and implementation of the corporate growth strategy. You will provide leadership and oversight in all activities pertaining to Business Development, Regulatory, and Legal and Government Relations.
You will promote a culture of high-performance and continuous improvement that aligns with Saint John Energy's core values. The successful candidate will support various cross-departmental projects by evaluating risk, providing resources, and building a strong cohesive team that leverages strengths and scaffolds weaknesses.
Responsibilities:
•Translate the corporate strategy into departmental objectives and goals
•Provide guidance to senior leadership in matters that pertain to business development, corporate legal, regulatory and government relations
•Identify new business opportunities consistent with the Vision
•Business case modeling and analysis related to new business ventures
•Manage the flow of legal work from internal stakeholders to external counsel
•Foster relationships within the three levels of government
•Lead the SJE regulatory team in matters before the Energy and Utilities Board
•Collaborate with the Senior Leadership team in developing the ten-year corporate capital and expense budget.
•Develop and provide oversight of your departmental Capital and Operational budgets
•Focus on achieving results through scorecards and benchmarks.
•As required, support the preparation of and presentation of materials to the Board of Commissioners and Common Council.
•Be visible in the community through volunteerism and participation at the board level in local charities.
•Represent the interests of Saint John Energy inside various industry associations
•Accept various other temporary and/or permanent duties as required and consistent with your training and experience.
Working Conditions:
•40 Hours per week (8:00am – 5:00 pm)
•Inside working environment
•Sitting and standing for moderate periods
•Additional time beyond normal working hours as required
Employment Requirements:
•Must have a recognized degree in Business Administration, Law or equivalent degree.
•Must have a minimum of ten years experience in a senior leadership role that includes the management of personnel.
•Ability to successfully interact with peers and Management.
•Must have exemplary verbal and written communication skills.
•Experience with business development, legal and regulatory.
•Strong problem identification and resolution skills.
•Comfortable in working in an environment with very diverse duties, that require accuracy and attention to details.
•High level of multi-tasking, requiring excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks.
•Ability to handle confidential information in an ethical and professional manner.
•This position commands a high degree of responsibility and autonomy
•Supplemental courses in Finance, Legal, Regulatory, Government Relations and Management would be considered an asset.
