Role Summary

The GIS Specialist I position is an intermediate-level role focused on managing geospatial data, creating maps, and supporting integrity and various other programs within the Buckeye organization. This role requires proficiency in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and data management tools & processes. The ideal candidate will be familiar with linear referencing systems and have experience in the petroleum pipeline industry.


Responsibilities & Essential Functions Include

Supporting the implementation of Buckeye’s GIS programs including, but not limited to:


Data Integration

Performing alignment and loading of pipeline In-Line Inspection (ILI) reports using commercially available software.
Supporting various data integration efforts by performing data entry, editing, and validation tasks as well as executing defined workflows.


Data Management

Completing routine data maintenance tasks, including attribute edits.
Assisting stakeholders with data collection and maintenance tasks.
Performing Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) operations and data reconciliation processes.
Supporting data integrity efforts by participating in Quality Assurance & Quality Control (QA/QC) activities such as: development of QA/QC procedures and reports and providing basic QA/QC oversight.


GIS Program Support

Applying knowledge of spatial and non-spatial analysis tools, including linear referencing tools.
Participating in GIS project activities including, but not limited to scoping, requirements gathering, workflow analysis, and documentation.
Participating in review of internal GIS procedure documents.
Supporting emergency response activities as requested.


Customer Service

Routinely receiving, clarifying, and providing deliverables for ad-hoc and routine data requests from a variety of internal customers


Stakeholder Engagement

Successfully interfacing with a variety of stakeholders with some oversight from senior GIS Staff.
Participating in scheduled stakeholder outreach including but not limited to webinar series and formal training.


Department Support

Providing support for Asset Integrity Team members.
And other duties as assigned.


Position Requirements

Associate degree or equivalent coursework required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
2+ years of relevant experience
Understands and has some competency with fundamental data integration best practices, principles, and tools.
Proficiency using Microsoft Office applications required.
Competency with the ESRI ArcGIS suite of products required.
Competency with Geonamic PipelineOffice Studio is preferred.
Competency with SQL, FME (or other ETL tool), Python or other programming languages is helpful.
Travel Requirements: 5% travel possible.

Excellent communication, both written and verbal, as well as strong time management skills are paramount.
Excellent skills to function as part of a team of subject matter experts in support of operations and compliance objectives.
The individual must be well organized with the ability to keep accurate records and provide status updates.


Essential Functions

This position requires the ability to perform essential job functions consistent safely and successfully with ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and or/quantitative productivity standards.
This role requires the ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
This position requires compliance with all personnel policies.


Physical & Safety Requirements

The person in this position needs to occasionally move inside the office to access file cabinets, office equipment, etc.
This role continuously operates a computer and other office equipment.
