Koontz Bryant Johnson Williams (KBJW) is seeking a Geotechnical Intern to join our growing team in our Chesterfield, Virginia office. This position is aimed at enthusiastic and self-driven students enrolled in an accredited civil engineering or geology program. As a Geotechnical Intern you will be primarily focused on developing your ability to successfully complete field studies, basic laboratory testing, evaluate laboratory results, and begin to generate findings reports with geotechnical conclusions and recommendations for residential and commercial projects.

Duties and Responsibilities:
•Conducts field sampling activities of soils and rock.
•Logging of geotechnical borings and field data during drilling operations.
•Assist with laboratory analyses of soil and rock characteristics.
•Review laboratory data and site conditions to determine geotechnical recommendations.
•Assist with preparation of technical finding reports.
•Assist with foundation design recommendations.
•Collaborates closely with engineers and other team members to support various project tasks.
•Ability to take direction from leadership and management to execute projects.
•Providing crucial administrative support to keep projects moving forward.
•Ability to thrive independently and within a team.
Qualifications:
•Actively enrolled in accredited engineering or geology program
•Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Geology
•Excellent written and verbal communication.
•Proficient with MS Office

•Work may routinely (and sometimes extensively) require the employee to sit, stand, walk, climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl.
•Candidates must be willing to participate in field activities in a variety of weather conditions, remote locations, and uneven terrain. (10+ hour days in hot weather are not uncommon during the summer season)
•The employee may be required to push, pull, lift, and/or carry field equipment up to 40 pounds.
•The employee must be able to reach with hands and/or arms, and frequently required to hold, handle, or feel a variety of items.
•The employee must be able to see and focus, including with close, distance, and peripheral vision, as well as depth vision.
•The employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
