Coterra is hiring a Geophysicist for our Pittsburgh, PA office.
As a Geophysicist at Coterra, you will be responsible for drilling and completions planning/execution in a collaborative team setting, as well as generating inventory growth. You will be actively involved with the planning and implementation of our horizontal exploration and development plans. You will work closely with other Geoscientists, Geosteering Specialists, Engineers, Drilling, completions, and field staff to ensure the safe and efficient execution of the well plans to optimize the success of Coterra’s drilling programs. Expectations will be to work alongside corporate technology to participate in and integrate advanced analysis projects into operational decision making. This is an Excellent opportunity to grow with a leading exploration and production company. This position is located on site in our office in Pittsburgh, PA and will report to the Geology Manager.
Map and communicate geological and geophysical risk and resource analyses
Analyze and integrate 2D/3D seismic data to support development, production, and exploration activity with high-quality subsurface characterization and visualization
Apply geophysical techniques to assess drilling hazards, reservoir quality, and structural integrity to minimize risk and enhance decision-making
Utilize various software platforms and workflows for improving seismic products in house, inversion, AVO analysis, and attribute interpretation to help create value
Work closely with geologists, engineers, and land professionals to develop comprehensive maps and cross sections to visualize the subsurface in support of well planning and field development and strategies
Provide technical guidance and support for seismic acquisition, data licensing, and integration of new surface or subsurface geophysical technology
Works well in a team environment but can also work independently with minimal supervision
Must be a passionate self-starter and team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills
Practical knowledge and experience with unconventional resource plays, with some Marcellus experience preferred
Exposure to Spotfire, ESRI, Microsoft Office Suite is preferred
Excellent familiarity with industry aspects such field development and well planning, drilling/wellsite operations, wireline logging, completions/geomechanics/DFIT’s, and seismic data interpretation and manipulation
Attention to detail with a high level of accuracy
Graduate degree, Masters degree in Geology or Geophysics
Minimum of five (5) years of experience in Upstream Oil and Gas
Work is typically performed indoors in an office environment. Incumbents must be able to perform work which includes typing, sitting and standing. If incumbent visits operations worksite, personal protection equipment, including head protection, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety shoes, and flame-resistant clothing is required. Safety rules including OSHA and DOT requirements are strictly enforced. Employees must be willing to travel, and work extended hours on short notice.
10% Travel will be required for mandatory meetings, training, visit to the corporate Houston office, and visits to field locations.
