Under general supervision is responsible for personally performing a wide variety of duties involved in the operation and maintenance of hydro, steam, and gas turbine electric generating facility.
· Is responsible for personally performing a wide variety of duties involved in generating electricity.
· Periodically checks specified meters, gauges and/or recorders including Supervisory Control System. Records data to appropriate logs. Data includes such information as AC Volts, DC volts, load gate limit, gate position, bearing temperature, hydraulic pressure, damper position, extraction pressure, steam exhaust pressure, inlet pressure, etc. Analyzes data and takes appropriate action. Calls to the attention of the Operator in charge any recordings that are unusual or inconsistent with previous recordings for his actions.
· As required, assists Operator in charge in economically dispatching steam, gas or hydro generating units.
· Puts steam, gas, or hydro units on line and/or assists in deleting units from line.
· Performs generating functions and duties such as dumping ashes, making feed water tests, blowing soot, adjusting fans, pumps and pulverizes, etc.
· As required, notes and records data on all outside plant equipment.
· If problems exist, takes corrective action and/or contacts supervisor or maintenance to take action.
· Trains in proper performance of duties, coordinates operation action so that generating units are properly brought on line.
· Trains in ensuring that interchange power agreements are met by reviewing purchase power data and economically dispatches accordingly.
· Trains in analyzing power generated and demand and coordinates these activities to conserve water for most effective use during peak loads to ensure efficient power production and practical lake level for recreational use.
· Adheres to Commission’s safety rules and regulations.
· Receives and records “after hours” trouble or service calls. Contacts standby personnel to investigate the problem. May use Supervisory Control System for switching, AMI system for customer service issues, and Outage Management system for switching and locating problems on distribution lines.
· Performs switching in plant substations as required.
· Maintains records and completes reports. Makes calculations as required.
· Periodically attends training sessions pertaining to safety, first aid, CPR and technical subjects.
· Responsible for proper use and care of tools and equipment.
· Must be available to work rotation shifts, be available for on call duties, special trouble calls and overtime as necessary.
· As a public employee is responsible for maintaining good relations with the public served.
· Skillfully use hand tools or machines needed for your work.
· Reads gauges, meters, recorders in order to record data accurately.
· Use arithmetic, calculators, computers to record, graph, or plot data accurately.
· Accepts responsibility for the accuracy of work as it is turned out.
· Must complete steps to become a Generating Plant Operator within 24 months of initial hire date
Lifting 75 lbs. maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 lbs. Climbing. Balancing. Stooping. Kneeling. Crouching. Crawling. Reaching. Handling. Fingering. Feeling. Talking. Hearing. Seeing.

Requires mathematical development sufficient to be able to: add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure, practical application of fractions, percentages, ratio and proportion.
Must have developed language skills to the point to be able to: read instructions, rules, etc., looking up unfamiliar words in dictionary for meaning, spelling and pronunciation.
Write sentences using proper end punctuation and employing adjectives and adverbs.
Speak clearly and distinctly with appropriate pauses, emphasis and correct pronunciation.

High school diploma or GED. Successful completion of Microsoft Word and Excel courses prior to completing the training program.
