We are currently seeking a dedicated General Maintenance Worker to join our team on the Operations and Maintenance Engineering Enhancement (OMEE) program for Naval Health Clinics New England (NHCNE) at Newport, RI.
As a General Maintenance Worker, you will perform a variety of routine and preventive maintenance tasks to support the safe and efficient operation of medical treatment facilities at the Newport site (e.g., Naval Health Clinic Bldg 23, Dental Clinic Bldg 1173). This role involves hands-on repairs across multiple trades (e.g., plumbing, electrical, doors, lighting) in a healthcare environment, with a focus on compliance and minimal disruption to patient care. This is a full-time position
- Conduct preventive maintenance (PM), inspections, and minor repairs on building systems and Real Property Installed Equipment (RPIE), including doors, lighting (e.g., bulb replacements, emergency/exit signs), plumbing fixtures, and basic electrical components.
- Perform tasks per RPSS procedures and PWS guidelines, such as checking hardware, seals, and operations for doors; replacing light bulbs and testing emergency lighting; and addressing minor plumbing issues like leaks or clogs.
- Respond to service calls and emergencies within required timelines (e.g., 1 hour for critical issues), troubleshooting and resolving problems to maintain facility uptime.
- Support unscheduled repairs via service orders, preparing Infection Control Risk Assessments (ICRAMR) and Interim Life Safety Measures (ILSM) for healthcare areas.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards (e.g., EM 385-1-1, OSHA), participating in training and weekly progress meetings.
- Assist with initial and annual condition assessments, reporting deficiencies to the Contract Maintenance Manager (CMM).
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas.
- High school diploma or equivalent; minimum 3 years of experience in general maintenance for healthcare or commercial facilities.
- Multi-skilled in basic trades (e.g., plumbing, electrical, carpentry); certifications like OSHA 10/30 or trade-specific (e.g., electrical/plumbing) preferred.
- Valid driver's license; ability to pass DoD background check and health screenings.
- Knowledge of healthcare standards (e.g., TJC, NFPA) and systems like building automation is a plus.
- Physical ability to lift 50+ lbs, work at heights, in confined spaces, and stand for extended periods.- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently or in a team.
