Reporting to the Supervisor, Non-Ferrous Shred, the General Labourer / Picker will be responsible for performing any tasks involving physical labour that our operations require in the downstream, warehouse, yard or shop. The General Labourer will be responsible for the efficient processing of scrap materials according to established procedures, following all safety protocols and workplace policies.
Duties and Responsibilities
The primary duties and responsibilities assigned to this position are as follows:
•Identifies various (scrap) metal pieces
•Picks and sorts various metals/materials accordingly
•Ensures quality of the metals/material being sorted and picked
•Cleans work area and equipment as often as required
•Recognizes operational deficiencies with machines, equipment and/or processes and reports them to the supervisor
•Operates mobile powered equipment (as required) and machines while adhering to all safe work practices and procedures
•Works in accordance with all company health and safety guidelines
•Other duties as assigned by the supervisor
Note: additional assistance with duties associated within the yard, shop or warehouse may be required as the need arises

Working Conditions
•Warehouse-type setting, with occasional outside work
•Exposure to dust and noise from equipment/machines
•Working on an elevated platform
•Willing and able to work in variable weather conditions including hot/dry summer conditions and cold winter conditions
•Use of Personal Protection Equipment is mandatory (company provided)
•Own tools/equipment required: Steel-toed safety boots
•Safety sensitive environment
Physical Requirements
•Able to meet the physical demands of the position including standing for extended periods of time, bending, walking, sitting, climbing, crawling, kneeling, moderate to heavy lifting and pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds throughout the day
