Primary Purpose
PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION
Design construction drawings via CAD (Microstation), plan via PassPort, and initiate work packages for work to be performed on distribution facilities by C&M crews and contractor departments. Perform field engineering and provide designs to both internal and external customers, negotiate schedules, prioritize and schedule work in PassPort, and follow to completion of work tasks. Performing an emergency response function and being on-call is also required. Designers are the single point of contact for all gas design-related issues for gas plant/replacement job designs.
Primary Duties
PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
•Promote a safe work environment. Collaborate and communicate with construction personnel (both internal and external), customers and other utilities.
•Prepare gas work order designs that include the application of Exelon design and construction standards. This includes the application for right-of-way, easements, and all permits.
•Plan and design all work via CAD and PassPort, including but not limited to performing a field assessment, job estimating (cost and work duration), ordering material, scheduling equipment delivery, consulting with construction personnel, and adhering to the Work Management Process for construction scheduling.
•Respond to the needs of the Gas Engineering group by providing designs and furnishing cost estimates based on Company standard rates and specifications.
•Apply the latest Company programs (PassPort, P3, CAD) to improve efficiency of work task production.
•Respond to emergency call-outs and perform emergency response functions as required (screener, dispatcher, analyst, etc.). Analyze emergency information and provide support as required.
•Train and mentor less experienced designers. Review designs and recommend corrections while adhering to established procedures and practices.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
•High School diploma or equivalent and three (3) years of experience as a principal designer or equivalent experience.
•Ability to pass any applicable tests.
•Ability to work independently as a team member, including the ability to handle conflicting priorities and to multi-task.
•Stong interpersonal, time management and oral/written communication skills.
•Ability to work overtime and respond to emergency call-outs.
•General knowledge of construction terminology, preferred.
•Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, preferred.

Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field.
