Under the general direction of the Section Head, the Gas Design Engineer will provide technical direction to the design staff and/or
consultants completing design work for additions and modifications to the natural gas distribution and transmission systems for
dispatchable capacity and related projects. Duties will include the estimating, budgeting, project management and sealing of
drawings. The Gas Design Engineer will design the gas distribution and transmission systems to meet Manitoba Hydro standards,
industry codes and customer needs in a safe and cost-effective manner. The Gas Design Engineer will provide engineering support
to Customer Service and Construction activities.
- Project Management of dispatchable capacity and related large natural gas projects as well as numerous smaller scale
- Support the use of engineering consultants and contract drafting personnel to manage workloads and required schedules.
- Act as a point contact for all internal and external stakeholders related to natural gas work including Generation Projects,
Customer Energy Services, Asset Management, Property, T&D Environment and Engagement, Finance, Rates & Regulatory,
Operations & Maintenance, Consultants, Contractors, Government Agencies etc.
- Support Gas Construction with the installation of projects, including scheduling, contractor procurement, material
- Identification and implementation of new processes, procedures, tools and materials to continually improve Gas Engineering &
- Implement Corporate Value Framework using Copperleaf software for budget and project prioritization.
- Perform technical analyses for and provide direction to external third parties to protect existing natural gas infrastructure
- Provide technical direction for gas distribution and transmission design work for additions and modifications to the natural gas
distribution and transmission systems meeting safety, code and standard compliance, and cost expectations.
- Complete dispatchable capacity and other distribution and transmission construction estimates and seal construction
- Perform Engineering analysis and provide technical advice on gas distribution and transmission design.
- Administer project management practices and techniques in the planning, scheduling and implementation of all design and
- Review completed as-built work orders for technical compliance and provide under seal to the PUB compliance of all
construction work to related codes, corporate standards and procedures.
- Coordinate with Gas Planning to implement recommendations contained in planning reports and memos.
- Supervise, mentor and provide technical direction to Junior Engineers, Technologists, EIT's, summer students by defining
performance objectives, assigning work, monitoring progress, setting up training, interviewing and selecting individuals for job
openings, and evaluating and documenting employees performance, including giving discipline.

- Graduate of Mechanical or Civil engineering from a University of recognized standing and a minimum of seven years of
related engineering experience to distribution and transmission gas pipeline design and project management, including
supervisory experience and a broad knowledge of natural gas distribution systems.

- Demonstrated comprehensive knowledge of both Corporate and Industry Standards and procedures in the field of natural gas
utility distribution and transmission system design and construction.
- Capable of devising new methods or modifying or adopting standard principles or practices to new or changing conditions.
- Technical knowledge pertaining to natural gas pipeline design and hydraulics.
- Must be enthusiastic and display initiative in handling involved and adverse technical problems. Mature judgment and the
ability to carry out assigned duties for multiple projects at the same time.
- Possess a valid Class 5 Province of Manitoba Driver's Licence.
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $51.34-$70.34 Hourly,
$98,380.88-$134,784.78 Annually.
