We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Food Safety Manager to join our team remotely, driving critical food safety initiatives across our food-grade facilities.


Summary:

Reporting to the VP Operations & C&I, this key position is responsible for leading new, critical corporate food safety initiatives, with broad responsibilities across the Food Grade facilities, including product quality, food safety, US and Canadian regulatory compliance, third-party certifications, customer-facing technical sales support, and advocacy.

How will you contribute to the team?

To perform this role successfully, the candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

Lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of food safety and quality programs across all food-grade sites.
Ensure compliance within U.S. (FDA, USDA) and Canadian (CFIA, Health Canada) regulatory bodies and any applicable global standards.
Oversee third-party food safety certifications (e.g. SQF, HACCP, GFSI) including audit preparation, corrective actions, and renewals.
Collaborate with site-level teams to standardize food safety procedures, documentation, and performance metrics.
Provide technical support, quality and training support to operational teams to ensure consistent understanding and application of food safety standards.
Serve as the primary subject matter expert on food safety for internal and external stakeholders.
Stay current on food safety regulations, trends, and technologies to ensure continuous improvement and risk mitigation.
Actively participate in certification site audits and lead teams to implement key quality initiatives.
Lead the development of a company-wide Food Safety Management System and Best-Practice implementation in partnership with production sites.
Conduct Root Cause Analysis and implement Corrective and Preventive Action plans in response to customer complaints and major food safety deviations
Lead document control process and oversee the implementation and expansion of corporate procedures.
Collaborate with Product Management on Product Data Sheet process.
Lead, design, and refine audit process including internal and 3rd party audits.
Perform other related duties as required.

What should you bring to the role?

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education in Food Science, Microbiology, Quality Assurance or related field.
6 years of experience in food safety, quality and regulatory roles within food-grade manufacturing or processing environments.
In-depth knowledge of Canadian and US food safety regulations, industry standards, and third-party certifications (e.g. GFSI, HACCP, SQF, BRC).
Strong leadership and communication skills with experience managing cross-functional and multi-site teams
Proven track record of leading successful audits and driving food safety improvements.
Ability to travel to multiple sites across Canadian and the USA, as needed.
Primarily remote-based, with regular travel to production facilities (estimated 25%-40%).
Demonstrated experience in technical problem solving.
Superior organizational and communication skills.


Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Quality Assurance or related field.
