Under the direction and guidance of the Fleet Operations Supervisor, the Technical Assistant is responsible for providing broad,
complex, and diversified technical support services. This includes fleet purchase specifications, tender analysis, fleet related
research and development projects, fleet related communication with internal customers, vendors and other organizations, providing
technical training, reassignment and disposal of surplus vehicles, and special studies.
Responsibilities:
•Develop technical specifications and outfitting requirements of complex utility fleet equipment and vehicles based on customer
requirements and Fleet Standards; and other vehicles and equipment as required.
•Analyze tenders and prepare purchase recommendations and purchase orders, participate in pre-production meetings, and
maintain close working relations with the In-Service Section.
•Resolve vehicle and equipment problems through liaison with customer personnel, Fleet Services and vendor resources,
manufacturers' technical and management representatives.
•Maintain unit files and the M5 Fleet Management System database with all required information related to acquisition and
replacement of vehicles.
•Maintain and coordinate changes to the Fleet Telematics program, ensuring the accurate tracking and reporting of vehicle
data, and troubleshooting any issues related to telematics systems.
•Participate on related Corporate Vehicle and Equipment Standards Committees and provide input into Fleet Technical and
Vehicle and Equipment Standards. Implement, monitor, and report on departmental research and development programs.
•Provide functional guidance to management and supervisory staff on all aspects of Fleet Support and assist as required in
providing appropriate technical training programs for Fleet Services staff and internal customers.
•Assist in the evaluation, development and maintenance of processes and procedures related to the M5 Fleet Management
System and other computer applications.
•Assist with the implementation and administration of fleet vehicle and equipment factory warranty policies.
•Keep abreast of new trends and developments and ensure that management and staff are well informed.
Qualifications:
•A two-year Diploma in Mechanical Technology from an institute of recognized standing and a minimum of three years related
experience in a utility, fleet maintenance or support environment.
OR
•Grade 12 education and certification as a Utility Fleet Technician together with a minimum of three years combined
experience in mobile hydraulic systems, non-destructive testing, preventative maintenance scheduling, warranty
administration and fleet support functions.
•Core knowledge of applied mathematics, science and engineering principles to assist in the troubleshooting analysis and
problem solving of a variety of Fleet related design issues and problems.
•Broad knowledge of utility fleet operation and maintenance, manufacturing processes and interpretation of related standards,

regulations and directives.
•Proven ability to communicate both orally and in writing and work both effectively and diplomatically with other corporate staff,
suppliers and other utilities.
•Possess a thorough knowledge in the preparation of specialized utility equipment parts and lubricant specifications.
•Possess an understanding of the requirements needed to effectively work within a service environment.
•Ability to foresee possible safety hazards in both vehicle and equipment design and performance.
•Possess the skills and ability to train others by means of presentations, classes, courses, etc.
•Ability to establish and maintain successful working relationships with staff at all levels of the Corporation.
•Working knowledge of Corporation policies and procedures.
•The successful candidate must possess initiative and mature judgement with the ability to make and implement sound
decisions with minimum supervision.
•Working knowledge of personal computer operating systems and related software.
•Working knowledge of SAP Materials Management and the M5 Fleet Management System.
•Possess a valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver's Licence.
Salary Range
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $34.80-$48.16 Hourly,
$66,691.04-$92,279.98 Annually.
