Fire Chief/Emergency Services Lead
Summary of Position
This position is responsible for leading safe, efficient, reliable, and environmentally compliant emergency response operations at the Ocean Point Terminal facility. Key responsibilities include ensuring the safe execution of emergency operations, managing maintenance activities, developing schedules, administering budgets, and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations. The role also involves the creation and implementation of emergency response policies and procedures. The Fire Chief oversees and develops both full-time personnel and volunteer members of the facility’s Emergency Response Team through supervision, coaching, training, and mentorship. Additionally, the Fire Chief serves as the primary liaison with government and regulatory agencies, representing Ocean Point Terminals through formal correspondence and site visits, and evaluating regulatory developments that may impact emergency response operations.
Qualifications
Education
•High school diploma or GED is required
•Associate or Bachelor degree in Fire Protection Technology is preferred
•Pro-Board-Certified Fire Fighter
•Current Industrial Fire Fighting Certification
Experience
•Minimum of 10 years of directly related fire protection experience within the oil/gas terminal operations, petrochemical or related industry is required
•At least 5 years industry related supervisory experience
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
•Demonstrated knowledge of hazardous materials (HAZMAT) response, technical rescue operations, and safety management principles, supported by certifications in CPR and First Aid, as well as completion of relevant training courses in emergency response and safety procedures
•Demonstrated knowledge of NFPA Codes, emergency response equipment, safety and regulatory compliance procedures, and emergency response procedures
•Demonstrated knowledge and experience in terminal, marine, and tank fire fighting
•Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing with internal and external customers
•Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion in making recommendations
•Results driven with strong planning and organization skills
•Highly motivated self-starter who takes the initiative with minimum supervision
•Ability to influence, mentor, establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization
•Ability to train and instruct emergency response team members
Applicable Additional Requirements
•Ability and willingness to work extended hours, nights, rotating shifts, and holidays when required
•Ability to obtain, or currently possess, a valid Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC)
Physical Requirements
•Must be able to work outside in environmental conditions which at times include extreme heat
•Ability to climb stairs and ladders up to 60 feet and aboard vessels
•Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds, push and pull, reach overhead, operate hand tools, stoop and squat, wear breathing apparatus, enter confined spaces and utilize all necessary personal protective equipment
Location of Position is St. Croix, USVI
