About This Job

The Finishing Operator/Crew Lead is responsible for the crew who is responsible for the safe operation of the homogenizing furnaces, cooling chamber, band saw, lathes, and other equipment in the finishing area. The Finishing Operator will receive cast product from upstream production and follow the product routing to produce a finished product to the customers spec while meeting production schedules.

What you'll do:

Ensure the crew is continuing to have: Organization and housekeeping of the finishing and ingot storage areas
Give instruction and necessary information from control room operator and ensure team understands and follows through on the direction.
Ensures that the team Loads and unloads homogenization furnaces and cooling chamber in a timely manner and selects appropriate process.
Operate and supervise those who have the responsibility for homogenization of furnaces and cooling chamber.
Ensure that individuals Input and monitor information on homogenization furnace and cooling chamber controls
Sets up and operates saw(s) and lathe(s), selecting proper feeds and speeds and trains others to do this task.
Supervisors and assists with Loading and unloading of machines with the aid of a forklift or overhead crane, positioning material as required.
Supervise those who Unload equipment after process and delivers material to next area of operation as required.
Supervisors and places material cropping and chips in scrap boxes according to alloy.
Inspects the quality of the material during and after processes to make sure the piece is in spec per customer requirements using approved methods and SOP and train the team members to understand this process.
Records material dimensions using appropriate measuring instruments and following SOP.
Reports defective material and faulty equipment to the General Manager or Maintenance Department immediately.
Identifies all material handled by stamping or marking with necessary identification when required as specified and train the team to do the same.
Maintains communication about product schedule with the control room operator.
Aid in scheduling workflow through area
Completes paperwork and inputs information into the computer system, to track products through process.
Performs basic maintenance inspections and care on machines.
Check and maintain all equipment in proper working condition.
Check thermocouples for proper operation and change as required.
Maintains a clean and safe work environment.
Abides by all plant safety regulations and work rules.
Maintain inventory of needed supplies, etc. to perform duties.


What you'll need:

High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution
Will have prior internal or external experience in supervising others in a manufacturing environment.
Prefer candidates who have officially or unofficially trained others.
Employee must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire; Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
Must pass minimal physical test and background screening.
Candidates must be able to work any shift (will need to specify what the shifts are)
Physical effort required by the job includes standing, stooping, pulling, pushing, climbing, and lifting up to 50 pounds.

Judgment and decision-making abilities to prevent errors, scrap parts, safety hazards, or other poor results pertaining to job duties.
Ability to read and interpret work documents such as operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, quality instructions, and other related documents.
Ability to work with others as a team



Licenses or Certifications

If driving is required to complete the essential functions of this position, a valid driver’s license is required
Must satisfactorily complete the Ellwood Aluminum Crane and Forklift certification training programs
