Job Title: Finish Carpenter
Reports To: Shop Manager
Summary
The Finish Carpenter – Precast/Bridge Construction is responsible for precise carpentry work on bridge structures and precast concrete components. This includes installation and finishing of formwork, architectural elements, and wooden structures used in heavy civil construction. The ideal candidate has deep knowledge of carpentry tools and techniques, experience in concrete forming and finishing, and a strong understanding of job site safety and construction plans.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
•Install and finish formwork and structural components for bridges and precast concrete elements.
•Build and install custom wood forms and molds for casting concrete elements.
•Interpret and work from blueprints, shop drawings, and design specifications.
•Ensure accuracy and precision when measuring, cutting, shaping, and assembling materials.
•Operate handheld and power tools, layout instruments, and woodworking machinery.
•Perform detailed finish work on precast panels, bridge decks, barriers, and railings.
•Collaborate with concrete crews to ensure correct dimensions and alignment.
•Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
•Inspect finished components for defects or non-conformance and make repairs as needed.
•Follow all OSHA regulations, site-specific safety rules, and company safety protocols.
Qualifications
•High school diploma or equivalent.
•Minimum of 5 years of experience in the construction industry, preferably in bridge or precast concrete work.
•Deep knowledge and mastery of carpentry tools, materials, and techniques used in structural and finish work.
•Proven experience with forming systems, concrete molds, and architectural finishes.
•Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills.
•Ability to interpret blueprints, plans, and technical documents.
•Good communication and interpersonal skills for working within a team.
•Strong attention to detail and quality workmanship.
•Understanding of safety protocols and commitment to maintaining a hazard-free environment.
•Strong work ethic, reliability, and common sense in decision-making.
Physical Requirements
•Ability to lift and move materials up to 50 lbs.
•Frequent standing, bending, climbing, and working at heights.
•Ability to work in outdoor environments, including exposure to heat, cold, and inclement weather.
Work Schedule and Environment
•Full-time; may include early mornings, extended hours, weekends, and travel to job sites.
•Work is performed on active bridge construction and precast fabrication sites with typical construction hazards.
