Financial Analyst (contract)

Job Summary

Xcel Energy is seeking a Portfolio Coordinator to join the Technology Services team. This role supports a portfolio of projects by serving as a liaison between project managers and various accounting functions, including capital asset accounting, business area finance, and corporate accounting. The Portfolio Coordinator will be responsible for high-level financial analysis, accrual-based accounting, pulling actuals, performing as-built financials, and ensuring compliance in a regulated industry environment. This position requires strong financial and analytical skills, advanced Excel expertise, and the ability to work in a collaborative, fast-paced, and highly regulated setting.

- Provide high-level financial analysis and accrual-based accounting support for active projects.

- Pull actuals, perform as-built financials, and ensure accurate financial reporting for project portfolios.

- Partner with project managers, software/hardware teams, controllers, and corporate accounting to support project deliverables.

- Act as liaison between Technology Services and accounting functions to ensure compliance and proper financial alignment.

- Support a team of 10 Portfolio Coordinators in delivering accurate financial reporting and project support.

- Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure consistent and compliant project financials in a regulated industry.

- Assist with month-end close processes, including reporting and reconciliations.

- Document financial processes and ensure adherence to corporate accounting policies and standards.

Skills

- Strong financial background with knowledge of accrual-based accounting and month-end close processes.

- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, financial reporting).

- Experience with SAP and SharePoint.

- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to work effectively across teams.

- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience).

- 5–7 years of financial or accounting experience preferred (candidates with less experience or recent graduates in finance/accounting considered if strong foundational skills are demonstrated).
