Job Summary
The Accounting Controller will manage all accounting functions for our construction projects, including financial reporting, budgeting, compliance, and oversight of financial statements. Responsibilities also encompass accounts payable, accounts receivable, forecasting, and the development of financial reporting procedures. The ideal candidate will have experience in construction accounting, strong leadership skills, and a comprehensive understanding of construction financial management. This position will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
- Accounting Lead: Maintain company financial records of corporate and project direct cost. Lead as the accounting main support of the project stakeholders and collaborate with project managers, subcontractors, and clients to ensure company operations.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare business reports, financial forecasts, and statements for executive review.
- Financial Compliance Oversight: Coordinate and monitor compliance requirements across company operations and construction projects (insurance, lien waivers, bonds, prevailing wage, etc.). Ensure compliance with the project requirements as well as with all relevant federal, state, and local.
- Coordinate Prevailing Wage & Labor Compliance: Oversee and ensure compliance with prevailing wage rates and requirements including Davis-Bacon and applicable State-Specific regulations. Monitor wage determinations, fringe benefit calculations, rates, ensuring company, as well as Subcontractors’ compliance.
- Risk Management: Monitor and manage potential financial crises, develop contingency plans and allocating necessary resources.
- Team & Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Work closely with Finance, Construction, Procurement, and HR teams to ensure consistent compliance practices. Support the development of internal controls and procedures to improve compliance efficiency. Additionally, if needed, provide guidance and training to staff and subcontractors regarding compliance processes.
- Additional Duties: Oversee various functional areas, design management control instruments, and manage expenses as required.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Minimum of 5 years in accounting/controller work experience
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial concepts
- Familiarity in construction accounting software (e.g., ASC 606, Payment App AIA 702/703)
- Knowledge in regulatory compliance, prevailing wage laws, Davis-Bacon Act, and certified payroll.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with project managers, subcontractors, and senior management.
- Bilingual (Fluent in Spanish)
- Master’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field
- CPA or CMA certification
- In addition to the minimum of 5 years in an accounting/controller role, at least 1 year in a construction accounting role, including project accounting and job costing
- Experience in Renewable Energy Projects: Knowledge of financial management for renewable energy projects is highly preferred, including understanding of related incentives, subsidies, and regulatory frameworks
