Job Summary
Apply administrative and technical knowledge and experience to assist and support the Customer Field Service department. Assist in developing simple to moderate overhead line construction design and work orders. Perform mathematical calculations to support designs. Update, maintain, and ensure accuracy of computerized systems and other data. Learn and become proficient with the work management systems, applications and databases (GIS, SAP, ALDEN, ETC).
Key Responsibilities
•Learn the electric codes and work practices associated with the distribution system such as NESC, NEC, OSHA, UI standards and guidelines, and Operating Procedures.
•Duties: Provide support to the Customer Field Service Department. Prepare work requests for smaller designs & assist the department as needed. Examples of smaller design work include but are not limited to the following: Emergency Work Templates (“EWTs”), pole replacements for work orders within the SAP system, assist in taking field notes for third party work, capital work, and customer work, etc.
•Applies knowledge/skills to a range of simple to moderate activities as referenced in the examples listed above within their own area and responds to inquiries from others.Solves simple to moderate problems including new or unusual assignments related to their work.
•Duties: Gather customer requirements & prepare accurate project documents (e.g., work requests, drawings, material lists, service orders, construction agreements, and PLPAgreements).Act as customer advocate.
•Works with regular supervision/guidance. Accountable for individual results and impact on team and/or customer. Prioritizes and organizes own work to meet agreed upon deadlines. Assess workload and prioritize own schedule to meet deadlines.
•Contributes to achievement of department goals; promotes teamwork in others.
•Duties: Provide support and assistance to others as required.
•Rubber glove training required to make height measurements into secondary voltages on poles and mid span wires.
•Available for 24-hour coverage as required for storm restoration or emergency work.
•Effectively communicate (written and oral) with all levels of management and bargaining unit employees.
•Effectively and accurately organize critical information that affects multiple constituencies.
•Interact professionally with co-workers, management, customers, and other organizations outside UI.
•Some judgement is required to interpret and carry out instructions under minimum supervision
•Care and dependability to perform job duties efficiently and safely.
Required Qualifications
•High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
•Must have at least thirty (30) accredited college credits toward and must enroll in Associates Science Degree in engineering and applied science or related curriculum within ninety (90) days of the date of hire while working within the Customer Field Service Department. Supporting documentation required for candidate includes transcript, curriculum completed, and remaining curriculum.
•After one (1) year in this role, completion of at least three (3) additional college credits toward Associates Science Degree in engineering and applied science or related curriculum, and successful demonstration of job skills to be evaluated by management, employee will be eligible for flow through from labor grade seven (7) to labor grade six (6).
•Must obtain Associates Science Degree in an engineering and applied science or related curriculum within three (3) years of the date of hire while working within the Customer Field Service Department.
•Upon successfully obtaining Associates Science Degree in an engineering and applied science or related curriculum while in this position, as well as successful demonstration of job skills to be evaluated by management, employee will be eligible for consideration to progression to Field Technician B, Customer Field Services, labor grade three (3).
•Ten (10) years of experience in distribution, line construction, and maintenance is acceptable in lieu of Associates Science Degree in an engineering and applied science or related curriculum,
•Occasional users of flame-retardant clothing.
•Must have working knowledge of the PC including Microsoft Office and other windows-based systems.
•Demonstrated interpersonal skills and working as a team member.
•Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age and a high school graduate or equivalent, preferably with additional technical training and mechanical aptitude.
•Must have a valid drivers’ license, with a safe driving record.
•Must be available for storm and emergency assignments and to work extended duration with short notice.
•Must continuously work within company safety policies and procedures.
•Must be capable of performing all the essential job functions in the classification.
•Must successfully complete ongoing skill assessments to meet defined curriculum and progress, within a two (2) year period.
•Must be able to refer to and interpret drawings, sketches, written instructions and work orders.
•Must be able to use measuring tools, mobile data devices and testing instruments.
Preferred Qualifications
•Applicable military experience preferred.
•Currently enrolled in Associates Science Degree in an engineering and applied science or related curriculum preferred.
