Field Service Technician

Role Description:

This position reads and records water meter readings; performs a wide variety of responsible duties in the turn on, turn off, installation and servicing of residential and commercial water meters; assists customers in resolving water service problems; and performs related duties as assigned. Conducts and administers all company work related efforts and activities within the rules, regulations, and responsibilities of the most current company safety policy and OSHA regulation. Additionally, the Field Service Technician may be subject to on-call work, emergency call back work and subject to shift work that may include nights and weekends.


Primary Duties and Qualifications:

- Demonstrates a continuous effort to improve operations by streamlining work processes, decreasing turnaround times, and working cooperatively and jointly to provide efficiency and excellence in the use of resources.

- Delivers outstanding customer service. Establishes and maintains open communication with all internal and external customers; to include co-workers, contractors, residents, and other Utility departments. Informs immediate supervisor of daily operations, important developments, and work activities.

- Adheres to industry and Utility safety standards, policies, practices, and procedures. Provides services in accordance with all applicable regulatory requirements.

- Communicates with customer to resolve complaints/inquiries and/or directs complaints/inquiries to appropriate internal department. Updates files and reports to ensure accurate account information.

- Reads residential and business water meters on a regular schedule and for verification of high, low, or missed readings. Troubleshoots high water usage problems and suggests water conservation ideas to prevent future complaints.

- Disconnects and reconnects services within time performance standards. Records and reports meter registration, defects, and conditions.

- Installs hydrant and commercial irrigation meters. Performs basic maintenance on meters that includes testing, leak repairs and water pressure monitoring.

The purpose of interactions is primarily the sharing of information. May interact with customers which needs to be respectful, knowledgeable, and professional in manner.


Physical Demands:

Sitting for extended periods; prolonged periods of time with repetitive motions of hands and fingers; close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus; climb stairs, navigate uneven terrain; use fingers to grasp and move small objects; ability to hear and recognize sounds; able to react quickly using hands, fingers, or feet; able to utilize personal protective equipment as appropriate for safety. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to thirty pounds.

Facial hair for operations personnel shall not be allowed at points where the SCBA face piece is designed to contact and seal with the face (i.e. chin and jawline). Sideburns and mustaches will be trimmed and well-groomed as determined by the Operators Manager.

Work is performed in an office and outdoors where the employee may be exposed to noise from construction site heavy equipment and inclement weather.

Education/Knowledge: Work and knowledge with Utilisphere and line locates as well as the ability to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to high school degree or equivalency.

Certifications and Other Requirements: Experience with water meters or plumbing is a plus in this position. Must possess a valid Class B Arizona Driver’s License and have a clean driving record.

Writing: Work requires the ability to write work orders, memos, letters, reports and keep accurate daily records of meter and hydrant usage.

Managerial: Job has no responsibility for the direction or supervision of others but may provide advice/direction to an employee with less experience/skill.

Experience: Experience with Utilisphere and line locates preferred but not required. Minimum of six months’ experience in a related field.

Time Management: Ability to complete repairs and tasks in a timely fashion.

Policy/Decision Making: The employee normally performs the duty assignment after receiving detailed instructions as to methods, procedures, and desired end results with little room for deviation. The immediate supervisor may, at times, provide close and constant review.

Technical Skills: Work requires the use of standard technical skills appropriate to the work environment of the organization. Limited analysis and independent thinking is utilized.

General: Must have satisfactory outcome of drug testing, criminal record checks, motor vehicle record, and employment records prior to starting employment.

Licenses: Must have a valid Arizona driver’s license with no restrictions.

Location: Primary location will be the Global Water Center located in the City of Maricopa.
